5813. Willie Maggard , Jr.

Willie Maggard Jr., 75, of Chesapeake went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at CAMC Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

He was born Feb. 22, 1930, in Mingo County, a son of the late Willie and Roxie McCloud Maggard. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby Maggard, Edith Kirby, Anna Pack, Ruth Mitchell; and one brother, Alva Maggard.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Goldie Thompson Maggard; daughter, Vanessa Miller of Chesapeake; son, Michael L. Maggard of Hansford; one sister, Irene Gabbard of Richlands, Va.; two granddaughters, Michelle Maggard of Cross Lanes and Emily Maggard of Hansford; two grandsons, Gerry Miller of Chesapeake, Erick Miller of Charleston; one great-granddaughter, Synthia Miller of Chesapeake; two great-grandsons, Jayden Creasey of Cross Lanes, Matthew Miller of Chesapeake; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; and two special friends, Kathleen and Don Wiley of Shrewsbury (traveling companions).

Willie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chesapeake where he served on the usher board and a member of the UMWA. He retired from Bethlehem Mines where he was a shuttle operator. He was a US Army veteran during the Korean War.

Funeral service will be conducted Monday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Reed and Rev. Tom Holstein officiating. Entombment will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

Visitation will be Sunday 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, Chesapeake in Willie's memory.

Pryor Funeral Home, East Bank is in charge of the arrangements.
