Wilson (Bacon) Mullins

Wilson, son of David and Virginia Jane Short Mullins, married twice.
His first wife was Rebecca Maggard, daughter of David and Susan Harrison Maggard of Letcher County, Kentucky. Wilson's second marriage was to Rebecca Shepherd, daughter of William and Servilla
Amburgey Shepherd, widow of William H. Boggs, Sr. The common link in the Boggs-Mullins connection on Bold Camp is through Rebecca Shepherd Boggs Mullins. Her children by William H. Boggs, Sr. and by Wilson Mullins are, of course, half brothers and sisters. Another Boggs-Mullins link was the marriage of Wilson's sister, Rebecca Agnes Mullins, to Silas Boggs, son of William H. and Rebecca Shepherd Boggs.
Lester "Big Oop" Boggs believes the first Boggs settlers on the right fork of Bold Camp, called Mullins Fork, may have been the children of Wilson and Rebecca Shepherd Boggs Mullins. Wilson first lived on the head of the Cumberland River in Letcher County, Kentucky, just across the state line from Flat Gap, in Wise County, Virginia. His marriages to Rebecca Maggard and Rebecca Shepherd were performed in Letcher County, Kentucky. Wilson moved to Bold Camp when Silas and John A. Boggs where just young children. Rebecca's first husband, William H. Boggs, Sr., died in July 1854, in Wise County. Wilson and Rebecca Boggs Mullins were married in Letcher County, Kentucky on February 1, 1855 and their first child, Andrew Jackson "Little Andy," was born on Bold Camp in December 1855. From those dates, it is deducted that Wilson and Rebecca moved to Bold Camp sometime in 1855. The 1860 Census reports Wilson Mullins living near families known to reside on Bold Camp.

subjectMullins family genealogy

Roxie noticed your Mullins info. on a Wilson C Mullins son of John Mullins and Celia Maggard, knew this man when I was a very young girl-- long time ago as I am now 82 years old
I just now found his families which I have been wanting to find

I knew Wilson C Mullins and his wife very well. , he was married to Rufine Robertson , a sister to the woman who raised me.
I dont know if he had ever been previously married, but certianly do know all time I knew him he was married to Rufine and when he died

They lived real close to us he and Aunt Rufine and visited us almost every day, he was very intelligent and helped me as young girl in grade school with my homework

He was crippled with his hands and had Club feet, he made his own shoes , and I seen him make his shoes , There wasnt any store shoes he could wear, his club feet was whhy he had to make his shoes -- he always wore Overalls, and had a mustache

He lived in Lincoln Co Ky , later to Casey , Ky where he lived by us, he wanted to return back to his old home places and he and Rufine moved and then I never knew what happened to them-- I never knew he had so many sis and bros , but I was very young then He and Rufine moved to Casey Co. to be near her sister

Notice different info as to his grandparents were---- was he married to a Boggs first ?

Do you have pictures of him ? I have pictures of him and his wife Rufine-- you have his wife as a Boggs, I dont know if he married before rufine or not, but 100% sure he married Rufine ,

Are you closely related to this family, I am sure you are , but how related,

If you have picture of him I sure would like to see it

one more thing when I was young girl I remember him telling me something about a Cyclone storm hitting a school probably where he went to school as a young boy,and blowing the school away, did you ever hear of that? Thanks for your info,, maggie@vci.net

308. Sarah (Sally) (Twin) Maggard

Per V.N. Phillips: Sally was a twin to Mose Maggard

310. Silas Maggard

Note from Lydia Justice Edwards <ljustice@ctcweb.net>

Silas and Sabra migrated from Elliott County when Charles W. Maggard was age 15. They traded a hard scrabble farm in Elliott family for 500 acres in Carter County at a place known originally as Wolf Pen. Now simply Wolf, Kentucky. The post office there was first run by Charles and Stella Maggard. It is now discontinued.

Col Ratcliff, one of the original ancient owners of the Carter Caves, traded 500 acres of pretty good land,to the Maggards because he believed the lost silver lode was located on their Elliott County Farm. Of course he dug up Elliott County looking for it. Meantime, Silas and Sabra divided up their 500 acres with their sons and one daughter.
Charles W. was age 15 when, his legend goes, he drove a wagonload of furniture in their wagon train to Wolf Pen where they built their first home in Carter County. LJE

Note from V.N. Phillips
Silas was named for Old Silas Boggs of Letcher Co., KY.
Silas was a noted millwright.

314. Henry C. Caudill

Following from :http://tpettit.best.vwh.net/family/pettit/FG03/FG03_215.htm
An article on the Pleasant Hadyn family and collateral relations in the 1956 Centennial Edition of the Rowan Co. News6 reads, in part,

"William W. William's wife, Rebecca, was the 4th child of 15 children of Rev. Henry C. Caudill and Elizabeth (Short) Caudill, who were married in Letcher County, Nov 9, 1848. About 1860, they moved to Rowan County to what was later known as the Sammy Caudill farm on Craney. A little later they moved to Ditney Ridge, where they raised their large family and until their deaths. Both were born in Wise County, Virginia, he on Dec. 9, 1848 and she on Oct. 17, 1830. Mrs. Caudill was the daughter of Anderson Short, (her mother's maiden name was Melling), and a sister of Civil War Veteran Daniel Short, who moved to Morehead from Ditney at the close of the century. Two other brothers, Washington and Booker Short lived in Bath County, near Olympia Springs."
