Charles Forrester Shoots Self-Body Found One Week Later.
Wednesday evening, the 4th insf., Charles Forrester left his home on the East side of the valley, between Oakville and Yountville, telling his family upon departing, that he was going to kill himself. As he had made such a remark several times during the past two or three months Mrs. Forrester paid little attention to it.
As the night wore on and Mr. Forrester did not return the family became alarmed and started a search for him. Later the neighborhood joined in looking for the missing man and the hills and the vales were scoured without success.
Tuesday morning about 8 O'clock, two boys, one the son of Mrs. Bors, and the other a son of William Turner, both neighbors of the Forrester's, were on their way to the field to plant corn and stumbled on to the body of Forrester lying in a ditch only about a quarter of a mile from his house. He had shot himself through the head, having placed the muzzle of a 44. Colts revolver in his mouth and discharging it.
Mr. Forrester had been working for Bert Rossi, a neighbor, and the day before his disappearance had drawn $48 of his wages, This money was found in his pocket undisturbed.
Forrester owned a farm on the East side of the valley about eight miles from St.Helena. He was a native of California, aged about 50 years and is survived by a wife and five* children. There are also left three sisters, Mrs. C.I. Mayfield, of Napa, Mrs. Malcolm Lees, of Newark, California. and Mrs. Ed. Crochet, of Oakland, and a brother, Henry Forrester, of Lodi, California. The family has resided in Napa county many years.
The funeral took place Wednesday the remains being interred in the Yountville cemetery.
Coroner Webber will hold an inquest this evening. From what we have been able to learn, Mr. Forrester had been very despondent for many months.****

Chas. Forrester, who lived on the back road, between Yountville and Oakville, was found lying dead in a ditch, by two boys, Tuesday afternoon about a mile from his home. A pistol, with which he had evidently shot himself, was found lying by his side. Mr. Forrester disappeared from his home last Wednesday, and no trace of him had been found until Tuesday.
He is survived by a widow and five* children. There are left also three sisters, Mrs. C. I. Mayfield of Napa, Mrs. Malcolm Lees (sic--Reid) of Newark, CA and Mrs. Ed Crochet of Oakland, and a brother, Henry Forrester, of Lodi, CA.
Coroner Webber will hold an inquest Friday afternoon at Yountville.* These obituaries state that only five children survived him; Simona's obituary states that eight Forrester children survived her in 1969.

Simona Forrester
Simona Forrester, born in St. Helena in 1881 and member of a pioneer Spanish family, died Tuesday night at the age of 87. She had been ill two years. Her great-great grandfather received a Spanish land grant to the Carillo ranch.
Mrs. Forrester, who spoke Italian, Spanish and Portuguese fluently, attended the old Central School in Napa, and John L. Shearer, from whom Shearer School was named, was one of her teachers.
She was the widow of Charles Forrester, whom she married in 1898.
Survivors include eight children, Mrs. Elizabeth McGall, Mrs. Belle Segoria, Mrs. Allyce Borges, Charles, James and Malcom Forrester, all of Napa, John Paul Forrester of Orland, and Thomas Edward Forrester of Sacramento.
She was the sister of Mrs. Mary Rodriques of Sacramento and Mrs. Dorothy Locketti of Napa. Twenty grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren also survive.
The Rev. Erwin Bollinger will conduct funeral services Friday at 2 p.m. at the Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the family plot in Yountville Cemetery.
