MARTIN, BROTHER SILAS
It is with much much unworthy feelings I write an obituary of my dear father in the flesh and Brother in the Lord I hope. Brother Silas Martin was borned April 19, 1873 and deceased this life April 1, 1947 age 73 years 11 months and 12 days old. He was the son of Wite and Clerisa Martin. He was married to Millie Hall in 1894 and to this union was born nine children, two of them preceded him in death. His wife was the daughter of Jeff and Clerinda Hall. He joined the Old Carr Church by experience and Baptism about 1937 and went by letter later on to the Little Home Church, and remained a faithful member until death. Through his two months sickness one day at the Stumbo Hospital we wanted him to stay there and he said no use for me to stay or why should I stay here when Christ is standing in the door waiting for me to come. And at home he was asleep and woke up and said some of the children of God says you don't know nothing. But I know that I am going to heaven for the Lord has showed me my future home and while he was leading him across the floor one day he said the floor was full of little speckled birds. He left a good widow and 7 children with 57 grandchildren and many relatives and friends to mourn his loss. But we hope our loss is Heavens eternal gain. We look forward to meet him in heaven to part no more. Gone but not forgotten. Written by Elder L. D. Francis, Red Fox, Ky., and dedicated by Millie Martin his weeping widow, and Coda Martin, his son.
