Opal Maynard, 82, of Johns Creek, died Friday, July 24, 2009, at her residence. She was born in McDowell, Dec. 17, 1926, the daughter of the late Bert and Maudie Hall. She was a teacher for the Floyd County school system, a lifetime member of McCombs Homemaker Club and a member of the Salem United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by four brothers, Vernice Hall, Adrian Hall, Marley Hall and Floyd Hall; and two sisters Irmel Moore and Vivian Pack. She is survived by her husband, Arvid Arnold Maynard; two children, Robert Maynard, of Johns Creek, and Carla Fields; one brother, Sternley Hall, of Proctorville, Ohio; two sisters, Nan Stephenson, of Raceland, and Eunice Taylor, of Lavalette, W.Va.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 26 at the Community Funeral Home with Garfield Potter and Tim Swanston as officiators. Burial was held at Maynard Family Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under direction of Community Funeral Home.
