Ben Maynard, 93, of Shelbiana, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at his home. He was born at Varney, Oct. 28, 1915, the son of the late Millard and Angeline Lowe Maynard. He was in the logger and timber business and was a member of the Big Branch Old Regular Baptist Church since 1952. He was preceded in death by his wife, Trulie McCoy Maynard; one son, Craft Maynard; three brothers, James Pry, Orison and John C. Maynard; and two sisters, Laura Howell and Almay Ray; He is survived by one son, Claude Maynard of Meta; three daughters, Marie “Mildred” Maynard of Meta, Gracie Blackburn of Upper Johns Creek, Louise Blackburn of Shelbiana; one brother, Jonah Maynard of Meta; one sister, Ester Goff of Hardy; 25 grandchildren, and 41 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, in the Apple Orchard Old Regular Baptist Church with Richard Staton, Danny Runyon, Dale Williamson and others officiating. Burial followed in the Apple Orchard Cemetery, Lower Brushy. Arrangements were under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
