118. Berry McConnell
According to the 1850 census, both their ages were listed as 29. At that time there were 6 children listed for this couple. At the time the 1860 census was taken, there were 9 children whose names were Nancy, Ester, Margaret, Thomas, Mary, Robert, Rachel, Malinda, and James.
Over the years it had been said and written that this couple moved away to Kentucky before the Civil War, but now we know from land records and from what a great-granddaughter says that they settled in Lee County, VA on the south side of Little Black Mountain where Keokee now stands. In 1985 the Keokee Extension Homemakers published a booklet "The Village of Keokee - a Bicentennial Report" and on page 58 it stated "In the late 1840's Brackenberry (Berry) McConnell and his family migrated to Crab Orchard, Lee County, VA from Scott County, VA."
