He was the son of Orvil Delp (b. Apr 1853 in Hancock County, TN) and Susan Willis (born 28 May 1856 in TN).
Information given by Wilma Delp Lewis to Lillian Delp Fox: Her father and mother owned a Moving and Storage business in Appalachia in the 1920's. Garfield's brother, George, also worked in the business. After Ova's death, Garfield went back to work in the mines. He had worked in the mines before they were married.

456. Alpha Victoria Allen
"Mommy", as her grandchildren called her, was a loving, caring person. She was a hard worker, always having a garden and canning what was grown. As a child, I remember her making apple butter in the back yard in a big black kettle over an open fire. She lived the last fifteen years of her life in a nursing hope in Big Stone Gap, VA and died three months before her 94th birthday.
Was a coal miner living in Wise County, VA most of his life. About 1960 he retired and moved to Jonesville, VA where he lived until he died. Enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening.
1930 Census - Wise County, VA (Mud Lick Creek) pg. 10A - Dewey age 31, Alpha age 29, Ruby P. age 10, Houston age 8, William age 5, and Cecil age 2 11/12. He was a coal miner and lived in a rented house which was $5.50 a month.
Died from T.B., black lung disease, or lung cancer. He died in Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, TN but was living in Jonesville, VA at the time of death.
