Obituary: Arnold Hern McPeek 8 Mar 1927 - 22 Oct 2009
Arnold Hern McPeek, 82, of Dorton, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at his residence. He was born March 8, 1927, in Pike County, a son of the late Beldon and Elsie Johnson McPeek. He was a member of the Dorton Freewill Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a retired coal miner and has also worked as an automobile paint and body mechanic.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Allan Van; and a grandson, Daniel Travis Wright.
He is survived by his wife, Cora McPeek; two sons, Terry McPeek, of Leesvile, S.C., and Jeffrey McPeek of Jenkins; three daughters, Debra Tackett, of Jenkins, Wanda Meadows, of Virgie, and Herna Cable, of Dorton; five brothers, Stewart McPeek, of Pikeville, Billie McPeek, of Sevierville, Tenn., Jerry McPeek, of Dorton, and Robert McPeek and Jimmy McPeek, both of Michigan; three sisters, Fern Elliott, of Virgie, Fanny Stewart, of Jenkins, and Francis Kauffman, of California; and 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 26, at the Hall and Jones Funeral Home, with Dorton Freewill Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Haven of Rest Cemetery at Mayking, Letcher Co KY.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home, with nightly services beginning at 1 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Hall and Jones Funeral Home, of Virgie, KY.
