Freddie Jean Sergent Buchanan 70, of Harlan, Ky. Passed away Monday, August 18, 2008 at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. She was born May 9, 1938 in Harlan Co. Ky. Mrs. Buchanan was a Nurses Aid & a member of the Mary Helen United Methodist Church. Mrs. Buchanan was preceded in death by her husband; Marshal Buchanan. Parents; Fred & Birdie Fee Sergent. & one sister; Pauline Robinson. Mrs. Buchanan Leaves to morn her passing two children; Sharon McCullough of Mesa, AZ. Denny Powers of Harlan, Ky. Four brothers; Bill Collins of Warren, Mi. Walter Sergent, Theo Collins & Randy Collins all of Harlan, Ky. Three sisters; Charlene Short of Gallen, OH. Vickie Brown of Georgia. Judy Brock of Harlan, Ky. And all of her many special friends and neighbors from the Holiday Apartments. Funeral Services are scheduled Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home with the Pastor Bob Landis Officiating. After the services Mrs. Buchanan will be laid to rest in the Day-Jackson Cemetery of Cranks, Ky. Family & Friends will serve as pallbearers. Eli Caldwell, Published: Sunday, August 10, 2008 12:45 PM CDT: Eli Caldwell, 91, of Wallins, Ky. Passed away Saturday, August 9, 2008 at the Harlan Nursing Home. He was born May 23, 1917 in Leslie County, Ky. Mr. Caldwell was a warehouse worker for H.T. Hackney and a member of the Wallins Baptist Church. Mr. Caldwell was preceded in death by his wife; Mahaley Brock Caldwell. Parents; Shade & Laura Belcher Caldwell. One child; Thea Caldwell. 12 brothers & sisters. And three Grandchildren. Mr. Caldwell is survived by five children; Jesse Muncy & husband, David. Freda Thomas & husband, John Robert. Harold Caldwell Sr. & wife, Debbie all of Wallins, Ky. Bert Caldwell & wife, Denise of Keith, Ky. Elsie Faye Caldwell of Tazewell, TN. One sister; Elsie Noe of Wallins, Ky. 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home with the Rev. Freeman Clark & Rev. Doug Daniels officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Daniels Cemetery of Wallins, Ky. Robert Combs, Published: Tuesday, August 19, 2008 12:01 AM CDT Robert Combs, 85, of Jones Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Harlan ARH Hospital, Harlan, KY. A native and lifelong resident of Harlan County, KY, he was a retired coal miner and believed in the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Fern Middleton Combs; his mother, Dawn Ward Combs; his father, Roscoe Combs; a brother, Roy Combs; two sisters: Mae and Ruby Combs; and a grandchild, Rachel Faye Napier. Survivors include five children: Timmy Ray Combs and wife, Mary, Jones Creek; Rodney Gene Combs and wife, Wanda, Bangor, Maine; Selisa Lynn Harris and husband, David, Pennington Gap; Gregory Lee Combs and wife, Emma, Jones Creek; and Delora Fern Combs, Harlan. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren: Becky Combs, Angela Pennington, Timothy Combs, Jessica Long, Joshua Combs, Heather Howard, Ashley Napier, Brandon Bell, Shawn Bell, Wesley Bell, Jamie Combs, Chris Combs, Daniel Combs, Jesse Combs and Jimmy Combs; and nine great-grandchildren: Madison, Gavin, Bethany and Caleb Combs, Emily Howard, Gracie Pennington, Allison Combs, Kaylee Long and Chris Combs, Jr. Visitation will be held anytime today at the Turner Baptist Church at Verda. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Church with the Rev. Jerry Kirby and the Rev. Verlan Madden officiating. Burial will follow in the Family Cemetery at Jones Creek. He was born October 24, 1929 in Napier, Ky. Mr. Couch was a veteran of the U.S. Army and believed in the Church of Christ faith. Preceding Mr. Couch in death is his wife; France Couch. Parents; David & Leona Turner Couch. Two Children; Patsy Lynn & Attie Mae Couch. Three brothers; Sidney Couch, Ralph Couch, & Bige Couch. Two sisters; Thelma Hart & Mary Couch. A native of Fort Dustis, Virginia, she had lived in Harlan County most of her life. She was a graduate of Evarts High School, a homemaker, and believed in the Church of God faith. Tammy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Willis and Odie Johnson, Willard and Sally Sizemore; a brother, Leroy Johnson; a special cousin, Jordyan Johnson; an aunt, Wanda Vesper; and a very special friend, Judy Rains. Survivors include her husband of 18 years, James Edward Fuson, Jr., Ages; two children, Richard Garrett Fuson and Alana Nornelle Fuson, both of Ages; her parents, Willie V. Sizemore and Shirley Johnson Sizemore, River Ridge; and a brother, Tony Sizemore and wife, Renee, Evarts. Also surviving are her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lytta and James Edward Fuson, Sr., Ages; two brothers-in-law, Gary Fuson, Sookie Ridge; Larry Fuson, Verda; two special friends, Leslie Jackson and Barbara Middleton; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation will be held at the Closplint Church of God Saturday from 5 until 9 pm and Sunday from 12 until 9 pm. She was born February 21, 1925 in Highsplint, Ky. Mrs. Hagy was a former sales associate for Bowers & Belks Dept. Stores. She was a member of the Harlan Baptist Church where she taught the five year old Sunday School Class and Sun Beams for 13 Years, a charter member of the Glory Singers, a member of the Christian Menders and Joy’s Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her parents; Guy Ford Sr. & Viola Ann Dockery Ford. Husband; Eugene Hagy. Daughter; Kaye Hagy Blanton. One brother; Fred C. Ford. Survivors include one daughter; Susan Hagy Pollitte & husband Dennis of Harlan, Ky. Three grandchildren; Lisa Tolliver & husband Lee of Harlan, Ky. Allen Blanton of Harlan, Ky. & Joseph Pollitte Lexington, Ky. One brother; Guy Ford Jr. & wife Wilma of Lafollette, TN.
