died Thursday, February 3, 2005 at Hazard ARH Medical Center in Hazard, KY. She
was the daughter of the late Robert McBee and Rosalee Harris. She is preceded in
death by her husband, Abel Adams. She is survived by one daughter, Ludie
Beatrice Luddington; four grandchildren Paul Michael Cornett, Pamela Kaye Combs,
Angela Scarborough, and Bevery Okumu; ten great-grandchildren and four

Born in Letcher County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Gracie Short Baker. He was the father of the late Jeffrey Lynn Baker, and the great-grandfather of the late Eric Hammonds. He was married to the late Mary Katherine Baker and later married the late Meldia Slone Baker. he was a member of the Neon Pentecostal Church, Neon, Letcher Co KY and had worked for the Kentucky Division of Forestry for 19 years and as a school bus driver for the Jenkins Head Start. Surviving are two sons, Charles Michael Baker and wife Kimberly, Whitesburg, KY, and John Dewayne Baker, Neon, KY; a daughter, Geneva Ann Sandlin and husband Charlie, Mallie; a brother, Douglas Baker, Whitesburg, KY; two sisters, Bonnie Thomas, Pippa Passes, KY, and Anna Johnson, Neon; 11 grandchildren, April Hammonds, Crissy Slone, Kimberly Hogg, Jeremy Wright, Cory Baker, Bobbie Baker, Jonnie Baker, Adriene Baker, John Dewayne Baker II, Megan Baker, and Dalton Bailey; and a great-granddaughter, Alissa Brianne Hogg. Virgil and Sarah Jane Church, she was married to the late James "Tate" Hylton,
the late Jack Johnson, and the late Samuel Baker Sr. She was the mother of the
late Joe Hylton, the stepmother of the late Minerva Holcomb, and a sister of the
late Carson Church, Lillie Luckadoo, and Jencie Meade. Mrs. Baker died
January 22 at the Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Norton, Va. She was a
member of the Dunham Bethel Old Regular Baptist Church. Surviving are two
daughters, Eunice Clark, Wise, Va., and Barbara Turnmyre, Jenkins; three sons,
James "Buddy" Hylton, Bethlehem, Ga.; Jerry Hylton, Wise, Va.; and Roger
Johnson, Jenkins; five stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
several step-grandchildren; a brother, Clayton Church, Pound, Va.; and a friend,
Louella Smith. Roberta Baker, age 93, of Viper, KY, died
Saturday, February 26, 2005 at her residence. She is survived by two
sons Kenneth Baker of Viper, KY and Nick Baker of Louisville, KY; 6

KY, died Friday, March 4, 2005, at home. She is preceded in death by her
husband, Johnny Basso, II; son Robert Emil Rasso; two sisters and three

and Maria Jonell Basso of Hazard, KY; one son Johnny James Basso of Hazard, KY;

William H. "Bill" Blair, 93, of Wilmore,
Kentucky, died June 1 at Thomson Hood Veterans Center. Born at Colson, Kentucky,
he was graduated from Whitesburg High School, Whitesburg, Letcher Co KY in 1934.
He was married to the late Doll Craft Blair and after her death married Hazel
Quillen Blair, who survives him. Bill and Doll Craft owned and operated a
restaurant in Whitesburg, Letcher Co KY until he entered the U.S. Army. He
returned home to Letcher County and was in coal mining, preparation and sales
for 30 years. The couple moved to Lexington, Fayette Co KY, in 1973. Craft was a
World War II veteran, a member of Whitesburg United Methodist Church,
Whitesburg, Letcher Co KY, a lifelong member of Whitesburg Lions Club, and a
member of the Lexington Country Club, Lexington, Fayette Co KY, for more than 30
years. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, William H. Blair
Jr. and wife Kathleen, Robert Blair and wife Karen, and Paul Blair and wife
Mary; a daughter, Deborah Blair Whorley and husband Robert; 10 grandchildren,
Kristy Galic and husband Ivan, Candace Blair, Bobby Blair, Tracy Haus and
husband Greg, Laura Blair and husband Jason Thompson, Bill Blair and wife
Amanda, Katie Blair, Jenny Blair, Drew Whorley, and Peyton Whorley; four great
grandchildren, Cameron and Malaina Galic, Carter Haus, and Angus Blair; a

resident of Perry County and was a member of the New Hope Christian Center and
enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He leaves

received great pleasure from her family, friends and pets. As a member of the
First Baptist Church of Hazard, she gave her time, talents and love serving
anyway she could. Josephine was also a member of the Hazard Chapter of the D.A.R.
During over 30 years of membership to the Garden Club of Perry Co., she served
in many offices and committees. Josie was also a member of Kentucky Preceptor
Phi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and XI PSI Chapter. She served in many offices
including President and on many committees. She was also given the honor of
being named girl of the year. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by

She was born at Dwarf, Kentucky, and was a member of the Dwarf Baptist Church. She was the former head bookkeeper for Heleringers Furniture. Louise was also president of the Concerned Families of Hazelwood and liaison between State Government and Hazelwood ICF/MR. Over the years she had worked closely with five governors and earned the respect of newly elected officials. Many times she has pulled strings to halt legislation that would have undermined quality of life for people with disabilities. As special projects director and “the voice” of Hazelwood Center, she has helped transform Kentucky into a national leader in mental retardation services. Dr. Henry Hood, director of the Underwood and Lee Clinic, said “I have never met anyone that holds a candle to Louise Underwood.” The Velvet Hammer, according to Dr. Hood, still makes politicians “quake in their boots.” He asked her how she swayed them, year after year, and she answered: “Simply, you just don’t let up.” Louise was preceded in death by her parents: Chester Arthur and Mollie Everage Gayheart, and brothers: Bill and Dickie Gayheart. She is survived by two daughters, Sherron McIntosh of Chavies and Jennifer Haddix of Hazard, KY; sisters Faye Wallace of Kingston, Tn. and Caroline Sexton of Oak Ridge, Tn.; brother Alfred Adkins of Clinton, Tn. She is also survived by four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Arrangements were handled by Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard, KY where the family received friends on Monday, August 18, 2008. The funeral service was conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 with Mark Tabata officiating.
