Marty was the son of Creed Flannery Potter and Ida Fuller. Joel Martin Marty Potter was born on March 2, 1941 in Fleming - Neon, Letcher County, Kentucky.

Joel Martin Marty Potter is survived by two sons, Trent Potter and Bobby Ramirez of Austin, Texas, one daughter, Angela Carmen Potter Bergeron of Pasadena, Texas, his mother, Ida Fuller Potter of Houston, Texas, four brothers, David and Clark Potter of Houston, Texas, Archie Potter of Elkhorn City, Kentucky and Dan Potter of Cincinnati, Ohio, 3 sisters, Carlene Burkland of Pasadena, Texas, Billie Jaynes of South Houston, Texas and Annette Potter of Houston, Texas, several grand children and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Joel Martin Marty Potter was preceded in death by his father, Creed Flannery Potter, and two brothers, Fred Lee Potter of Elkhorn City, Kentucky and Ralph Waldo Potter of Lexington, Kentucky.
