Julia Mae Roten Castle, 84, was remembered at funeral services held Oct. 21 at Rich Hill United Methodist Church. Rev. Bruce Roten and Rev. Tommy Graybeal officiated. Burial followed in the Brown Cemetery.

Mrs. Castle was born in Ashe County to Emmit Roten and Cora Graybeal Roten. She was a caretaker of the Rocky Mount Museum in Piney Flats, Tenn. She was preceded in deathby her parents; and her husband, James Castle.

She is survived by a brother, Wayne Roten, Creston; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Rich Hill United Methodist Church, c/o Bruce Roten, 663 Kemp-Lewis Circle, West Jefferson, NC 28694.

Boone Family Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Annis was my grand aunt. She married Joe Ray(e), and had one daughter, Nancy who is still living. She was shot in the chest in her front yard, which was considered a suicide.
