LOGAN DINGUS 74 PASSES AWAY SATURDAY

Prominent Martin man succumbs at home to Tuberculosis

An illness of a year tuberculosis resulted in the death at his home in Martin, Saturday night of Logan Dingus, 74 years old. One of this sections best known business men. Mr Dingus until ill health forced his retirement a few years ago had been a Merchant at Martin for 20 years. Prior to engaging in business the re he conducted Mercantile business in Boyd, Greenup, Carter, Pulaski and Lewis counties.

A son of the late Charles Wesley Dingus and Mrs Nancy Flanery Dingus, he was a member of a Pioneer Floyd County Family. He was a devout member of the Mormon Church. Mr Dingus was first married to Mrs Rhoda Osborne, whom died 45 years ago. Of this union was one son; C.W. Dingus, five daughters; Mrs Cynthia Meade, Goodman, MO, Mrs Nan Web, Blue River, Mrs Minnie Stephans, Hite, Mrs Maude Chaffins, Bennett, KY, and Mrs Doll Spurlock, Printer, KY. His second wife Mrs Sidney Stephens survives as do the following children of his second marriage. Mrs Bess Osborne OIive Hill, Mrs Grace Ratliff Martin and Glen B Dingus of Martin. Also surviving are two brothers, Phillip Dingus and Bill Dingus of Hite, Ky and two sisters, Mrs Caroline Lawson of Charleston and Mrs Fannie Mayo of Hite.

Funeral rites were conducted from the Methodist Church at martin Monday a afternoon, elders Tracy and Smith officiating. Burial was made in the Preston Cemetery under the direction of the Ryan Funeral Home.

Note: First buried in Lee Preston Cemetery. Body was moved to Martin Community Cemetery when New highway was put in at Martin, Ky


Hattie Preston

FUNERAL HELD SUNDAY FOR MRS. OSBORNE, 87
Mrs Hettie Preston Osborne, 87, died at her home at Martin last Thursday. Born August 16, 1882, she was a daughter of the late Mason Lee and Amanda Jane Dingus Allen Preston. Her first husband was the late Urban Allen and her second husband was the late Albert Osborne.

Survivors include three sons Ornie Allen of Hampton VA, Clyde Allen of Martin and Albert Osborne Jr of Troy NY; two brothers Dr J.C. Preston of Pikeville and Dr Burman Preston of Cincinnati, OH; three sisters. Mrs Sarah Dingus of Martin, Mrs Bertha Allen in OK and Mrs Velva Fitch of Columbus, OH ; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Hall Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was made in the family cemetery there.

HITE WOMAN VICTIM OF SUDDEN ATTACK AT AGE OF 81 YEARS

Mrs Dollie Orlena Dingus, 81 years old, wife of Phillip (Boy) Dingus, well known Hite resident died suddenly at her home at 8:15 Wednesday morning, victim of a heart attack. Mrs Dingus had apparently been in her usual health and the fatal seizure came without warning.
Member of one of the county's oldest families and a native of the community where she died. Mrs Dingus was the daughter of the late Thomas and Louisa Dingus Osborne. The circle of her friends was as wide as her extensive relationship.
Surviving, besides her husband are six sons and one daughter, W.E., Lacy, Russell and Wes Dingus, all of Hite, Ray Dingus, Mare Creek. Clyde Dingus, Martin and Mrs L. E. Crisp of Hite. She also leaves two brothers and one sister, the Rev S.D. Osborne, Martin, T.T. Osborne Clarksville Oh and Mrs S.P. Osborne, of Hite.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the auditorium of Martin High School and burial will be made in the family cemetery at Hite under direction of the Ryan Funeral Home. Elders Day Maxfield, Patton, Wallace and Allen will officiate at the funeral.


4884. Russell Jackson Dingus

Russell J. Dingus was born August 12, 1904 in Martin Ky. he was the son of the late Phillip Marion Dingus and Dolly Osborne Dingus. He died on June 24, 1996, at age 91, from pneumonia Monday at 2:59 p.m. at the Paul B. Hall Medical Center, He was a retired coal miner fomerly employed by Turner Elkhorn Mining Company as a tipple operator. He was also a carpenter and a member of the U,M,W.A. local union No. 9845. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Osborne Dingus. Survivors include three sons, Herbert Dingus and Marvin Dingus of Martin and Paul Dingus of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, June White of Columbus Ohio; four Grandchildren and three Great-grandchildren. His son Fred Dingus died on the same day.


Ann Osborne

Anna Dingus, 72, of Hite, Ky, died Wednesday at her home at Hite, following a sudden illness. A daughter of the late John D and Carrie Hall Osborne, She was born June 9, 1908 at Martin, Ky. Her husband Russell J. Dingus, survives. Other survivors include four sons, Marvin, Herbert and Fred, all of Hite and Paul of Columbus, Ohio. A daughter, June White of Columbus, Ohio. Three Brothers, John Osborne of Elliottville, Ky, Dave osborne of Weeksbury, and Troy Osborne of Warsaw, IN; and five sisdters Laura Scarborough of Weeksbury, Vanie Sexon of Martin, Mary Allen of Printer, Rushi Tackett of Wise, Va and Louuverine Sexton of Emma, She also leaves four grand children. Burial was made in the P.M. Dingus cemetery of Hite, Ky.


4885. Charles Westley Dingus

Charles Wesley Dingus, 74. of Hite, KY died last Wednsedy at Our Lady of the Way Hospital following a short illness. Born June 10, 1908 at Hite, Ky, he was the son of the late Phillip and Dolly Osborne Dingus and was a
farmer, His wife, Faye Boyd Dingus, preceded him in death. He is survived by two brothers, Clyde and Russell Dingus, both of Hite, Ky. Burial was made in Davidson Memorial Gardens,
no children from this union.


Ella Fae Boyd

Ella Fay Boyd Dingus, 74, of Hite, Ky, died Monday at Riverview Manor Nursing Home after a long illness. A native of Tennessee, she was born
July 4 1902, a daughter of the late Bob and Mary Nelson Boyd. She was a registered nurse, formerly associated with the Beaver Valley Hospital,
Our Lady of the Way Hospital and had done private nursing. She was amember of the Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Charles Wesley
Dingus; two sisters. Mrs Alma Lee Hargrove of Ypsilanti, MI and Mrs Thelma Stout of Greenfield Tennessee. Burial was made in Davidson Memorial Gardens.


Lillian Susan Compton

LILLIAN SUSAN COMPTON OSBORNE, 80 of Langley, died last Wednesday at Mountain Manor Nursing Home of Pikeville following a short illness. A daughter of the late R.B. and Nannie McConnell Compton. She was born Feb 25 1902 in Scott County VA. She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin (Bird) Osborne.

Survivors include two daughters Alice Emogene Osborne Hamilton of Langley and Ruth Osborne Akers of Martin, and two brothers, Beacher Compton of Scott Co, VA and Rubin Compton, Kingsport,TN. She also leaves 5 grand children and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral rites were conducted Saturday August 14, at Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Edward Parton, the officiating minister. Burial was made in the Osborne Cemetery at Martin.

William Sherman Frazier

WILLIAM S. FRAZIER, 76 OF Martin, IS CLAIMED; WAS FORMER COUNCILMAN
William S Frazier, 76, of Martin was claimed by an illness of three weeks at 4:30 pm, Monday at the Beaver Vally Hospital, Martin. He was a former Martin City Councilman and a retired mine operator. Mr Frazier was a son of John and Salley Adams Frazier and was married twice. His first wife Mary Osborne Frazier proceeded him in death. His second wife, Francis Reed Frazier survives. He was a member of the Church of the Latter Day Saints.

Surviving sons and daughters are Eugene Frazier, Thaoe Frazier, Mrs Effie Maggard, and Mrs Myrtle Berry, all of Martin, Alton and Otto Frazier, both of Dayton Ohio, Mrs Minnie Smith Detroit, MI, and Miss Janet Frazier of the home. Surviving step-daughters are Mrs Phyllis Cepters and Mrs Patricia Shepherd, both of Martin, Surviving are a brother and three sisters, Caner Frazier of Martrin, Mrs Denia Pace a and Mrs Lou Pace both of Wheelersburg, Ohio and Mrs Gracie Dill of Goshen VA, surviving also are 27 grand children and 38 great grandchildren and six step grandchildren.

Funeral rites were conducted today (Thursday) at 3 PM from the Martin High School Auditorium, the Rev Robert Martin officiating. Burial was made in the Frazier Cemetery under the direction of Hall Brothers Funeral Home.

MRS SUSAN E. OSBORNE, AGED HITE WOMAN, VICTIM AT MARTIN, WEDNESDAY
Mrs Susan Ellen Osborne Osborne, 79 years of age, of Hite,widow of Samuel P Osborne and last of the family of Thomas T and Lousie Dingus Osborne, early residents of the town of Martin, died at 11:45 am, Wednesday at Beaver Valley Hospital, Martin. Cause of death was not given. Mrs Osborn was preceded in death by her husband 11 years ago. She leaves three sons and four daughters; Algie and Harold Osborne of Hite, Norman Osborne of Drift, Mrs Mae Wohlford of Martin, Mrs Maude Smith, Mrs Stella smith and Eva Stephens, all of Hite

Funeral Rites will be conducted Saturday at 10 am at home, the Revs. Guy Deane and Robert Martin officiating. Burial will be made in the family cemetery under the direction of Hall Brothers Funeral Home.


Samuel P. Osborne

Samuel P. Osborne, 75, Prominent Land Owner, Dies at Hite Tuesday

An illness of two years of heart disease resulted Tuesday in the death at his home at Hite of Samuel P. Osborne, 75 years old, prominent Floyd County Farmer and land owner. A native of the community in which he died. Mr Osborne was the son of David and Mary Stephens Osborne. He was highly regarded as a citizen and had many friends. Surviving him are his widow Mrs Susan Osborne, four sons Thomas, Barness, Norman and Alex Osborne, four daughters, Mrs John Wohlford, Mrs Maude Smith, Mrs Eva Stephens and Mrs Stella Smith, all of Hite and vicinity. Three brothers, A.B. Osborne of Martin, Mathew and J.D. Osborne, both of Hite, also survive.

Funeral services were conducted from the home at Hite today Thursday. the Rev S.D. Osborne officiating, Burial was made in the family cemetery, the Ryan Funeral Home directing.
