Jesse Abner Vance

Jesse shot and killed Estel Messer, Rebecca's Second husband with Bane's pistol, Rebecca's third husband.
There are two stories, one of self defense the other of murder. Family says Jesse pulled one year for this. Rebecca was his sister.

Shot his wife Daisy Hash twice. Once in the back and another time shot her leg off.


6065. Dorothy Irene Vance

Dorothy Irene Vance Little, age 85, of North Tazewell, VA died Saturday January 23, 2016, at the family home in Baptist Valley of congestive heart failure. Born August 30, 1930 in Tazewell, VA, she was a daughter of Jesse Abner and Daisy Irene Hash Vance. She was one of four children. At various points, she worked as a waitress and as a hotel housekeeper. Mrs. Little was a homemaker in Tazewell County, Maryland, Indiana, and Belleville, MI. She was fond of the animals on her farm and knew each cow by name, wonderment to those in the family, whose names were interchangeable. Her family pride ran deep, past and present, and photos of them filled her home's walls and flat spaces. She most recently attended the Tazewell First Assembly of God Church, but also attended other Tazewell area churches over the years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Arthur James Little, and siblings, Jesse Carl Vance, Mary Ellen Vance Smith, and Betty Jane Vance Williams.

She is survived by four children, Jesse Andrew "Butch" Little of Baptist Valley, VA, Dora Irene Little Williams and Thomas of Adria, VA, Patricia Ann "Pat" Little Edwards and Kedric Conn, Sr. of Castlewood, VA, and Susan Marie Little Winningham and Leon of Baptist Valley, VA; seven grandchildren, Melissa Little South, of Grain Valley, MO, Chrissie Anderson Peters and Russell of Bristol, TN, Melenia Edwards Stryker and John of Leesburg, VA, Jesse Andrew Little, Jr. and Hayley of Summit, MO, Adam Little of DeSoto, KS, Sarah Williams of North Tazewell, VA and Kedric Edwards, Jr. and Melissa of Haymarket, VA; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members; and special caregiver, Kristi Yates.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Tazewell First Assembly of God where funeral services will be conducted at 8 PM with the Reverends Doug Johnson, Jimi Watson, and Conn Edwards officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 AM Friday at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, VA. Those attending may meet at Tazewell First Assembly of God Church by 10:30 AM Friday for procession.

Arthur James Little

Arthur James Little, age 89 of North Tazewell, VA died Monday, May 19, 2014 at the family home in Baptist Valley of complications from dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. Born November 9, 1924 in Ashe Co., NC, he was a son of Ambrose Andrew Little and Dora Matilda Roop Little. He was one of 12 children. Arthur served in the Army during World War II. He worked several places in Virginia, Maryland, Indiana, and Michigan. He retired from Ford Motor Company. In retirement he returned to farming, and continued to some measure until his death. He and his wife attended the Tazewell First Assembly of God Church, but had also attended other Tazewell Area churches over the years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Vernie Little, Reba Little Hurley, Earl Little, John Little, Nora Lee Little Horne, Harold Little, and Darrel Little.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Vance Little; four children, Jesse Andrew "Butch" Little of Baptist Valley, VA, Dora Irene Little and Thomas of Adria, VA, Patricia Ann Little "Pat" Edwards and Kedric Conn Edwards, Sr. of Castlewood, VA, and Susan Marie Little Winningham and Leon of Baptist Valley, VA; seven grandchildren, Melissa Little South , Chrissie Anderson Peters and Russell, Melenia Stryker and John, Jesse Andrew Little, Jr. and Hayley, Adam Little, Sarah Williams, and Kedric Edwards and Melissa, VA; nine great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; three sisters, Mayleen Little Puckett, Pauline Little Mazmanian and Barbara Little Vick; one brother, Billy "Bill" Little; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Tazewell Assembly of God Church with the Reverend Jimi Watson and the Reverend Conn Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, VA. Pallbearers will be Derrick Kirby, Chop Lowe, Danny Beavers, Larry Taylor, Jerry Yates, and Ronnie Gillespie. Adam Little, Andy Little, and Donna Murray will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the church from 6-8 PM Wednesday, May 21, 2014.
