Obituary: Sylvester Quillen buried at Ermine
Funeral services for Sylvester Quillen, 81, of McRoberts, were held January 18, 2009. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine, Letcher Co KY. A son of the late Joe and Necy Holbrook Quillen, he was born at Neon, Letcher Co KY. He died January 15, 2009 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Letcher Co KY. Quillen worked for L&N Railroad, which later became CSX Railroad, and retired after 45 years. He was a member of the railroad workers union, BMWE, and the Millstone Missionary Baptist Church. He was married to the late Opal Quillen, and after her death married Marvilene Smith Quillen, who survives him. He was a brother of the late Oliver Quillen and James Donald Quillen. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Sheila Quillen Hall, Jenkins; two sons, Donnie Wayne Quillen, Neon, and Robert Smith, London; eight grandchildren, Tara Taylor, Donnie Sylvester Quillen, Kevin Hall, Misty Hall, Hayley Smith, Kaydence Smith, Destinee Sammons, and Mylee Miller; nine great-grandchildren; Ethan Hogg; and a niece, Emily Sammons.
