Obituary: Vera Darcus Pigman, age 89, of Raven, Kentucky, died
Saturday, December 24, 2005, at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical
Center, Hazard, Kentucky. She was born December 27, 1915, in Mallie, Kentucky,
daughter of the late Clabe and Sally Sparkman Short. She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband: Dingus Pigman; one son: James Howard Pigman, one
grandson: Isaac Wayne Pigman; four brothers: Marion Short, Commodore Short,
Linzy B. Short, Berlin Short; one sister: Orzde Short; three
great-grandchildren: Hannah Claire Pigman, Jillian Nicole Pigman and Allison
Danielle Pigman. She is survived by one son: Alger Pigman, Hindman, Kentucky;
one brother: Wesley Short, Mallie, Kentucky; four sisters: Mazada Miller,
Detroit, Michigan, Martha Slone Amburgey, Garner, Kentucky, Marie Slone of
Indiana, Pollyann Pigman, Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren: Diane Elaine
Fragosa, Debra Lynn Rose, Kevin Brian Pigman, Craig Brent Pigman, Eric Lloyd
Pigman; eight great-grandchildren: Elzalee Wayne Pigman, Brittany Lyn Young,

Amburgey age 91 of Garner (KY), passed away February 15, 2009, at the
Knott County Nursing Home at Hindman (Knott Co KY). She was born April 22,
1917, at Mallie (KY). She worked in a grocery store and was a member of the
Hindman United Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Clabe &
Sally Sparkman Short and wife of the late Allen Slone and the Late Carlos
Amburgey. She is survived by 1 daughter: Maxine Slone of Garner; 1 brother:
Wesley Short of Mallie; 2 sister: Polly Ann Pigman of Ohio And Marie Slone
of Indiana; 31 Grandchildren & a host of great grandchildren; a host of
nieces, nephews, family & friends. She was preceded in death by 3 sons:
Johnny Slone, Wilmer Slone & Clyde Slone; 1 daughter: Christine Collins; 5
brothers: Claude Short, Commodore Short, Lindsey Short, Burlin Short &
Marion Short; 2 sisters: Darcus Pigman & Mazeda Miller. Funeral services
were held Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Nelson Frazier Funeral
Home, Hindman, with Bethel Bolen officiating. Burial followed at the Green
Slone Cemetery, Upper Mill Creek, Leburn, (KY) under the direction of the
Nelson Frazier Funeral Home of Hindman, Kentucky.

Obituary: Leroy Pigman
PIGMAN, Leroy 73, of Wilmington, OH passed away 8:58 AM, Saturday, April 14,
2007 at his home with his wife and children at his bedside. Mr. PIGMAN was
born July 22, 1933 near Mallie, KY, son of the late Olka and Corsetta Watts
Pigman. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Pigman retired after working 43 years
at General Motors. He worked many hours of overtime to give his family
everything and more than they needed, yet he never missed his children's
sporting events from city recreation through high school. Whenever they needed
him he was there. Mr. Pigman was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons, and
enjoyed fishing and U.K. basketball. Mr. Pigman is survived by his wife, Polly
Short Pigman, whom he married March 23, 1957; a daughter, Theresa (Clif)
Wheeler of Wilmington, OH; two sons, Mike (Terri) Pigman of Arcanum, OH and
Bob Pigman of Wilmington, OH; two sisters, Virda Moore of Hindman, KY and Mae
Haynes of Hindman, KY; two grandchildren, Destiny Rix of Martinsville, OH and
April Wheeler of Blanchester, OH; a great grandson, Christopher "Peanut" Rix;
and his constant companion, Bear. In addition to his parents, two brothers,
Oscar Pigman and Kelly Pigman, and a sister, Ruah Everidge, are preceded in
death. Mr. Pigman will be missed and thought of often. A graveside service
will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at Clinton County Memory
Gardens, Wilmington, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial
contributions be made to Community Care Hospice, P.O. Box 123, Wilmington, OH

Obituary: Mrs. Sallie
Short, 73, who had been staying the past few weeks with a daughter, Mrs.
Marie Slone, at Slone’s Nursing Home here, died there at 9:40 a.m. Saturday.
Her death was attributed to a heart attack. Most of her life was spent at
Hindman, Ky., but she had resided at Dayton, Ohio, for eight years before
coming here. Born at Hindman, Ky., Jan. 22, 1897, she was the daughter of
Wesley and Polly Ann Campbell Sparkman. She was married to Clabe Short, who
died in 1950. She is survived by 11 children, Claude Short, Commodore Short
and Mrs. Bingus (Dorcas) Pigman, all of Columbus, Ohio, Marion Short and Mrs.
Leroy (Polly Ann) Pigman, both of Dayton, Ohio, Berlin Short and Mrs. Carlos
(Martha) Amburgey, both of Hindman, Ky., Wesley Short, R.R. 6, Greensburg;
Linzy Short, Sunman, Mrs. Earl (Mazeda) Miller, Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. John
(Marie) Slone, R.R. 4, Greensburg. Also surviving are a brother, Howard
Sparkman, Salem; a sister, Mrs. Dovie Campbell, Hamilton, Ohio: 27
grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Private visitation at Olinger-Pearson
Funeral Home will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday and the body will then
be taken to Hindman, Ky., for funeral services and burial.
