Leo was killed when his pickup truck collided with the back of a coal truck on U.S. 23 near Dorton, KY. "Leo Slone, 55, of Millard, died Wednesday, January 17, at Caney Creek. Obituary Dennie Slone, 35, of Piney Flat, Tenn., formerly of Millard, died Tuesday, March 31, 1998, in a Piney Flat Medical Center. He was born in Pikeville, Aug. 28, 1962, a son of Johnny Slone of Piney Flat and the late Florence Slone. He was disabled. Besides his father, he is survived by his wife, Susan Slone; two daughters...; two brothers, Leo Slone of Elkhorn City, Johnny Slone Jr. of Millard; and one sister, Evelyn Thornsbury of Sidney. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, in the Justice Chapel... Burial followed in Annie E. Young Cemetery at East Shelbiana." Obituary Johnny Slone Sr: Appalachian News Express obituary: "Johnny Slone, 84, of Pikeville, died at 7:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. He was born in Pike County, May 18, 1919, a son of the late Matt and Gracie Thacker Slone. He was a retired coal miner, formerly employed by Kentland Elkhorn Coal Co., a member of United Mine Workers of America, and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, Rocky Road. He was preceded in death by five sons, Dan Slone, Donnie Slone, Leo Slone, Denny Slone, and George Slone; and two daughters, Arlene Slone and Flossie Slone. He is survived by his wife, Eloise T. Slone; one son, Johnny Slone Jr. of Pikeville; two daughters, Liza Jane Morrison of Pikeville, Evelyn Thornsbury of Sidney; four brothers, Curt Slone of Cleveland, Keen Slone of Biggs Branch, Jesse Slone of Elkhorn City, Matt Slone Jr. of Lorain, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, in the Justice Funeral Home Chapel, with Robert Warricks, Michael Elswick, Paul Varney, and David Coleman Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery, Chloe Road. Arrangements are under direction of Justice Funeral Home of Pikeville. Special services will be held at the church Sunday night at 7."
