James "Jim" Slone (aka Summer Jim) b 1834 Floyd Co KY d 29 Jun 1917 Knott Co KY, s/o William "Billie" Slone and Sallie Casebolt. James "Jim" Slone m. 15 Sept 1853 Knott Co KY to Frances "Frankie" Smith b 30 May 1837 Perry Co KY d 30 May 1908 Knott Co KY, d/o James Smith and Rhoda Owens. 

"Summer Jim" was thus named because of a slight adversity to work in the hot weather. Wisely preferring to do his farming from the comfort of this winter hearthside. though easy going and quiet, he possessed a certain wildness of spirit that could best be soothed through a close communion with nature. He loved to roam his mountains and hunt small game and just enjoy the solitude.

Jim was a Rebel in the Civil War, taking part in notable "Battle of Middlecreek". "Summer Jim" was one of the earliest and best stone masons in Eastern Kentucky. He was especially noted for his ability to construct "Good Drawing Chimneys. Even today some of these chimneys can still be seen. (Source). Children of James "Jim" Slone and Frances "Frankie" Smith;
