Eliza Jane was known as a big woman with an even bigger heart. According to
Harley Bible, one of her great-grandsons, she would feed and care for sick
families when no one else would go near them. She would invite a stranger
into her house and feed them if they looked hungry. She was known to feed
soldiers of both sides during the Civil War. Harley said she had a favorite
phrase she would use when she wanted to make a point. That phrase was "Do
say", usually which preceded anything she had to say about a particular
subject.
On the light side, Eliza Jane Potter was known to smoke a corn cob pipe and
to always keep a jug of "corn squeezins'" handy for digestion and medicinal
purposes. Children of Eliza Jane POTTER and Nathan H. SPARKS;
