Obituary: Michael Ray Turtle Murrell

Michael Ray Turtle Murrell, 57, of New Albany, Indiana and formerly of North Vernon, Indiana, and St. Augustine, Florida passed away on June 20, 2014. Turtle was a member of Eastside Christian Church and a former member of Lords Chapel in North Vernon. Turtle also enjoyed; leather crafting, drawing lighthouses, geocaching, fishing, gardening, inviting new friends to meet Christ, and traveling to St. Augustine.
Turtle was born on November 23, 1956 in Seymour, Indiana to Lena Mae (Gibson) and the late Ralph Murrell. He is also preceded in death by his first wife; Kathie Murrell.
He is survived by his wife Sheila Lynn (Griffith) Murrell; daughter, Chastidy Harvey (John); sisters, Carolyn King, Pam Israel; brothers, Billy Wayne, Dennis "Dink", and James Murrell; grandchildren; Caleb and Kaelyn Harvey; 11 nieces and nephews; and 9 great nieces and nephews; and his two four legged babies; Patrick and Gracie.
Visitation will be from 2 AM to 8 PM on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 and 9 AM to 11 AM Wednesday at Newcomer (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). His Funeral Service will be at 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.

Jackie Riley, 78, of North Vernon, died Monday, Oct 25, 2010, at Kindred Hospital South in Indianapolis.
She was born Aug. 7, 1932 in Craft Colley, Ky., the daughter of Elihue and Betty E. Sergent Stallard.
In her younger years she lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. She worked and retired from Muscatatuck State Developmental Center, where she worked in dietary. She worked as a certified nursing assistant at Jennings Hospital and Versailles Nursing Home. She was a member of the Valley Home Old Regular Baptist Church in Kurtz and the Muscatatuck Wildlife Refuge Society. She enjoyed flowers, wildlife, cooking, bird watching and going to Brown County State Park.
She is survived by three daughters, Theresa Gabaree of Salem, Valera Schafer of Madison and Peggy Wilson of North Vernon; one son, Jeffrey Riley of Scipio; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Riley, whome she married Aug. 7, 1947, and who died Sept. 2, 2008; one daughter, Kathie Murrell; her parents; and seven siblings, Pearlie Craft, Limbille Stallard, Margie Blair, James Stallard, Iba Lee Lanham, Andrew Stallard and Goldie Stallard.
The funeral was at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home in North Vernon. Burial was in Valley Home Cemetery in Kurtz.

The Rev. Lester Foster Franklin Riley, 87, of North Vernon, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.
He was born Jan. 24, 1921, in Independence, Ky., the son of Grafty Lee and Cordelia Gertrude Tungate Riley.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He had been a minister in the Old Regular Baptist Church for 50 years.
He was employed as a courier for the Indiana State Highway Department for 14 years, McCormack Lumber Co. in Franklin, Moir Lumber Co. in North Vernon for six years, Pennsylvania Railroad in Cincinnati, Ohio, Caudill Lumber Co. in Ermine, Ky., and had a route as a driver for Butler Dairy in North Vernon.
He was a member of the North Vernon Veterans of Foreign Wars Matt Hester Post 2021, the Blind Veterans Association and the Valley Home Regular Baptist Church in Kurtz, and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He enjoyed sharing photographs, playing euchre and making pictures from copper, as well as spending time at his church.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy L aura Murrell; his parents; three brothers, Gilbert, G.W. and Charles Allen Riley; and seven sisters, Goldie Roberts, Velma Gressik, Marie Hutchinson, Jeanie Webb, Myrtle Riley, Louise Sneed and Pearl Olson.
The funeral was at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon.
Burial was in the Valley Home Cemetery in Jackson County. Military honors were conducted graveside by the North Vernon Veterans of Foreign Wars Matt Hester Post 2021.

Obituary: Pearlie Jane Stallard Craft

Pearlie Jane Craft, 95, of North Vernon died at 3:35 a.m. Sunday, February 4, 2007, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.
Mrs. Craft was a homemaker and enjoyed canning, crocheting, sewing, flowers, gardening and spending time with her family.
She was a graduate of Letcher County High School in Kentucky and a member of Old Regular Baptist Church in North Vernon (IN).
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon with the Revs. Arthur Amburgy, Darrell Stidam, Arnold Bates and Eugene Day officiating.
Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery, Vernon, IN. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.
Born February 12, 1911, in Letcher County, Kentucky, Mrs. Craft was the daughter of Elihue and Betty Sergent Stallard.
She married James W. Craft.
Surviving are four sons, Roy Craft, Billy Craft and Dennis Craft, all of North Vernon and Kenneth Craft of Dupont; a daughter, Betty Downey of North Vernon; a sister, Jackie Riley of North Vernon; 16 grandchildren, Brenda Schuett, Loretta Thompson, Jimmy Downey, Lisa Pinaire, Cathlee Feltner, Billy David Craft, Ace Craft, Kenda Webb, Holly Rothert, Deborah Duncial, Kenneth Dale Low, Kenneth V. Craft Jr., Kenda Craft and Crystale Ponder, all of North Vernon, Danny Craft of South Bend, and Carla Craft of Columbus; 30 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, on January 30, 1977; three brothers, Andrew, James and Linville Stallard; three sisters, Margie Blair, Goldie Stallard and Iva Lee Lanham; and a great-grandchild.
