Obituary: Peggy Sue Burke Smith

Peggy Sue Burke Smith "Granny", age 58, of Jackhorn, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, February 14,2018 at the University of Kentucky Hospital of Lexington, Kentucky. She was born on June 9, 1959 at Jenkins, Kentucky to the late Boonie and Pina Bentley Burke.

Survivors include one son: Richard "Fudd" (Kimberly) Hall of Sergent, Kentucky; one daughter: Misty (J.D.) Griffith ofNeon, Kentucky; eight grandchildren: Skylar, Jepatha, Christian, Brody, Zack, Mason, Bella and Conner; four sisters and two brothers; along with a host of other family and many friends,

She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter: Peggy Sue Hall; one brother: John L. Burke; two sisters:Marcella Gann and Irene Szakacs.

Peggy was a loving mother and devoted grandmother, who loved being a "granny". She loved to watch and cheer for hergrandchildren at sporting events. Peggy enjoyed going to yard sales and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Carty Funeral Home of Neon, Kentucky on Friday, February 16, 2018; family viewing will beat 5:00 PM. Public visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be conducted from the Carty Funeral Home on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 1:00 PMwith Church of Christ Ministers officiating.

Burial will follow in the Potter Family Cemetery at Jackhorn, Kentucky.

Carty Funeral Home of Jenkins, Kentucky was honored to care for Mrs. Smith's arrangements.

Richard Burke, 56, of McRoberts passed away Wednesday June 13, 2018 at his residence. Richard was the son of the late Boonie and Pina Bentley Burke.

Surviving are his wife: Regina (GG) Burke of McRoberts; 4 Daughters: Brandie (Brandon) Pittman of Jenkins; Sandy Burke of Middlesboro; Anna (Leslie) Bentley; Breeanna (Billy) Young; 4 Sisters: Georgia Daniels of Indiana; Reba Jean of Indiana; Mona Feebaek of Indiana; Dillie Burke of Indiana; 1 Brother: Ernest (Billie) Burke; 4 grandchildren; Along with a host of neices and nephews to mourn his passing.

Richard was preceded in death by 2 Sisters: Peggy Smith, Marcella Gann; 1 Daughter: Kristie Burke; 1 Brother: John L Burke. Funeral 2:00 P.M. Thursday June 21, 2018 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation 10:00 A.M. Thursday June 21, 2018 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Bentley Cemetery at Yonts Fork KY.

Oct 29, 1953: Man Seriously Injured When Car
Collides With School Bus on Tuesday

The Neon-Fleming school bus, while on its way to the school on Tuesday morning, was struck by an on-coming car, seriously injuring Mr. Boonie Burke of Jackhorn who was driving the car, a '39 Pontiac. He was rushed to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington where he is suffering from a compound fracture of the left femur. None of the children were hurt on the bus, which was driven by Mr. Riley Isaac.

The accident occurred at the foot of Rockhouse Hill, a short distance above the Hemphill mines at about 7 :30 A M., E.S.T. The school bus was delivering both high and grade school children to the Neon-Fleming school.

It was reported by the State Police that the accident was caused by slippery highway, as it was raining at the time the accident occurred.

IRENE SZAKACZ (BASTIN) Portage, Indiana Formerly Lake Station, Indiana Irene Bastin Szakacz, Age 52 of Portage, formerly of Lake Station, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2006.

She was a loivng mother and very active in her family's life.

She will be missed by her loving husband, Steve Szakacz of Portage; father, Boonie Burke; children, Debra Lynn Bastin, John (Luz) Bastin, William Bastin, Fred Bastin, Steve Szakacy, and Jeffrey Szakacz; brothers and sisters, Georgia (Hubert) Daniels, Mona Feeback, Reba (David Bly) Fields, Ernest (Billy Gene) Burke, Peggy Smith, Dilley Burke and Richard Burke; 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Pina Burke; daughter, Alma Lee; brother, John L. Burke and sister, Marcella Gann.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Christopher Funeral Home, 1307 Central Avenue, Lake Station with Bishop Dale Combs officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, August 14, 2006 from 2-8 p.m. at the Christoper Funeral Home, (219)962-4115.

Denton Willard "Boo" Hill, 41, of Empire, passed away on Saturday April 13, 2013, at his residence.

He was a machine operator for Carcel & G Construction and was a member of Brooklin Masonic Lodge No. 704 F&AM.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Litttlevine Cemetery in Empire. Visitation will be today, April 16, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his father, Belvin Willard Gann; his mother, Martha Marcella Burke; his sister, Donna Mae Young and his father-in-law, Calvin Jackson Poore.
