Thursday, September 23, 1926 A man identified by officials only as a “foreigner” is said to have been intoxicated when he was killed after stepping into the path of a taxicab on Potters Fork. The cab, driven by 17-year-old Howard Collier, “was backing down the highway watching to the rear from his side of the car when the man came staggering up the bank and into the path of the car from the other side,” a frontpage report says. “Young Collier went to Jenkins, where a trial was held before Esquire Trucker and resulted in his complete exoneration. Young Collier is regarded as a very careful driving and no blame could be attached to him. He is a son of Rev. Willis Collier of Neon.”
