PINEVILLE - Jean H. Bailey, 80, died Friday, July 6, 2001, at her residen ce following a long illness. Born March 5, 1921, in Cynthia, Ky., she w as the daughter of the late William and Sue Kinney Hickman. Mrs. Bailey was a 60-year resident of Wyoming Co., a former chairman of the WV Federation for Democratic Women and a delegate to the Democratic National Conventi on in 1964, an active member in many other civic organizations and of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, former Secretary of State Robert D. Bailey Jr.; a brother, William Hickman Jr.; and a sister, Virginia Carr. Survivors include a son, Robert D. Bailey III and his wife, Christy, of Pineville; three grandchildren, Angela Sue Osborne of Salisbury, N.C., and Robert D. Bailey IV and Micah A. Bailey, both of Pineville; and a great-grandchild, Jordan Bailey Osborne. Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, with the Rev. Gerald Roberts officiating. Robert D. ‘Bob’ Bailey III

PINEVILLE — Robert D. “Bob” Bailey III, 61, of Pineville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, after an extended illness.

Born April 1, 1947, at Welch, he was the son of the late Robert D. Bailey, Jr. and Jean Hickman Bailey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunts, Virginia (Doe) Carr and Frances Bailey Groff.

Bailey was a life-long resident of Pineville and was the former owner of Wyoming Broadcasting Company and Wyoming Cable Television. He was an avid reader and an accomplished musician, having played in numerous local and regional bands throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife, Christy C. Bailey of Pineville; a daughter, Angela Sue Bailey Osborne and her husband Jeff of Salisbury, N.C.; sons, Robert D. Bailey IV and his wife Tanya of Pineville and Micah Alexander Bailey and his fiancé Lora Miller of Beckley; and three grandchildren, Jordan Bailey Osborne, Brendan David Mullins and Hailey Michelle Hurd. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who enjoyed having a crazy old Uncle Bob.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Doc Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

E. Claude Cook

MULLENS — E. Claude Cook, local businessman and longtime resident of Mullens, died on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at his residence of natural causes. He was 94.

Ewell Claude Cook was born Oct. 14, 1914, in Baileysville, the son of the late Jacob E. Cook and Elizabeth Stone Cook. After Jacob’s death in 1925, Mrs. Cook moved herself and Claude to Mullens, where they settled with her sister, Maude Stone. Elizabeth went to work for Mrs. Stone at what would become the Mullens Dollar Store, where she remained for nearly 50 years.

Claude graduated with honors from Mullens High School in 1931, then enrolled at the University of Illinois (Urbana) to study architecture. He returned to manage the Dollar Store until enlisting in the U.S. Army at the start of World War II. After serving four years at Camp Perry, Ohio, Claude resumed his duties at the Dollar Store, helping to expand the business into what would eventually be rechristened “Stone and Cook” in honor of his hard work and dedication.

Over the years, Claude became a pillar of the Mullens community. He was a long-standing member of the Mullens Chamber of Commerce and was twice elected president (at the time its youngest); he was both a Rotarian and Lion, helping to raise money for numerous civic and youth projects; he served on the Board of Directors of the Wyoming County Library system; and he was an active member (for more than 80 years) of the Mullens United Methodist Church. Both the church and the Mullens branch of the public library utilized Claude’s architectural training in their building projects; and his more than seven decades as an avid photographer help chronicle the growth and development of Wyoming County.

Claude was preceded in death by his mother in 1976 and his aunt, Maude, in 1980, but leaves behind cousins, Mary Ann Dixon of Canton, Ohio, Joyce Galloway of Williamsburg, Va., Barbara Harmon Price of Beckley, Jim Stone and family of Marietta, Ohio; Tom Stone of Summerton, S.C.; close friends, Gary and Betty Runion of Mullens; and caregivers, Sue and Will Peterson of New Richmond, and Mary Burks of Cabin Creek.

Service will be noon Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Mullens United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gerald Roberts officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum in Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

United Methodist men will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, Claude has requested the donations be made to Mullens Public Library, 102 Fourth Street, Mullens, WV 25882.

Betty was born Jan. 14, 1934, in Mullens to the late Edgar E. Stone and Thelma V. Eaton Stone.

Betty moved with her parents to Pineville in 1948 and graduated from Pineville High School in 1952. In addition to being a homemaker, Betty served for a number of years as a nurse’s aide at Doctor’s Memorial Hospital in Welch, and was a longtime coach of Little League baseball in Pineville.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Charles Stone, Frances Ashley, Robert Stone, Jean Ihichotlz and Doris Budzenski.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Leonard J. Eller; brothers, James L. Stone and his wife, Betty Sue, of Marietta, Ohio, and Thomas C. Stone and his wife, Marilyn, of Summerton, S.C.; children, Newton Andy Wallen III and his wife, Sandra, of Jacksonville, Fla., Tommie Jo Wallen Cook of Rock View, Kathryn Sue Eller Baird and her husband, David, of Jacksonville and Patrick Edgar Eller and his partner, Kelly Green, of Pineville; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Rebecca Mullens Rose and Angela Brown Davis; and many friends.

Betty will be greatly missed.

Her sister Maude hated the name Molly and called her Virginia for years. There was confusion as to what her real name was until they found her birth certificate. After she found out she was older than her husband, Onnie, that didn't make her very happy.

Mr. Bailey was a sales representative in the food industry. He was a resid ent of Lake Panasoffkee since 2002, moving there from Columbus, Ohio. He s erved in the U.S. Army and was a Baptist.

PINEVILLE - Geneva "Neva" Bailey Fralic, 97, of Pineville, ended her life ’s journey on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Born April 5, 1909, at Baileysville, she was the daughter of the late Jo hn (Jay) and Goldie Gore Bailey.

Mrs. Fralic was a member of Pineville United Methodist Church. She was a r etired school teacher with 30 years of service in Wyoming Co. and eight ye ars of service in Michigan. She was proud of her students and their accomp lishments. She was a member of the Wyoming Co. Association of Retired Teac hers and the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to travel and had visit ed all 50 states.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husban d, Ray E. Bailey; her second husband, Lyle W. Fralic; a granddaughter, Mel issa Bailey; and two daughters-in-law, Elizabeth M. Bailey and Susan Baile y.

Survivors include two sons, Eugene R. Bailey and his wife, Marsha, of Co ol Ridge and Billy R. Bailey and his wife, Joy, of Pineville; two grandchi ldren, John Bailey and his wife, Karen, and Glenn Bailey and his wife, Van essa; five great-grandchildren, Michelle McKinney, Amanda Dewhurst, Ryan B ailey, Erin Bailey and Stephanie Bailey; a great-great-grandson, Dylan McK inney; and a special niece, Lana Sue England.

Final rites for Arnold O. Bailey, 63, of Pineville, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Robertson-Foglesong Funeral Home at Pineville. Burial will be in Beaver Cemetery, Baileysville.
He died Thursday at 2:15 a.m. in a Mullens hospital.
Born April 15, 1909, at Baileysville, he was a son of the late Otis Bailey and Ida Bailey.
He was a retired coal miner and a lifelong resident of Wyoming Co.
Other survivors include his wife, Virginia Ellis Bailey; three sons, Charles of Indianapolis, Ind., Jerry of Ashland, Ky., and William, stationed with the Navy in Norfolk, Va.; two daughters, Miss Janet Bailey of Pineville and Mrs. Sandra Hudson of Lakeside, Ohio; four sisters, Mrs. Marie Jackson of Pineville, Mrs. Blanche Dillon of Kopperston, Mrs. Gaye Hurley of Ravencliff and Mrs. Mary Gilley of Clear Fork; a brother, Ernest of Columbus, Ohio, and four grandchildren.

Virginia "Bus" Ellis Bailey, 93, of Ramey Addition, Pineville, WV went
to be with the Lord at McDowell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center,
Gary, WV on Sunday March 16, 2008. She was born August 29, 1914
in Logan Co., WV a daughter of the late Joe and Zettie Allen Ellis.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Arnold Bailey; two
sons Bill and Charles Bailey; a son-in-law Richard "Dutch" Hudson; and
three sisters Madeline Clay, Lillian Fortner and Maudie Ellis.

Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters Janet Bailey of Pineville, WV
and Sandra Hudson of Oak Harbor, OH; a son Jerry Bailey and wife
Linda of Ashland, KY; four grandsons Rod Hudson and wife Neelam of
Lewis Center, OH, Robert Lee Bailey of Fishers, IN, Phil Bailey and wife
