I have been to Russell Co. Court House & Library today researchingNoahJessee. The following information is what we can verify: Noah D.Kernan,(b. 4-9-1858; d. 9-17-1936), son of Sarah Fuller & Stanford LeaJessee. He was married three times as follows: (1) On 10-20-1876 toElizabethAnn Davis. (2) On 10-30-1901 to Mary Massie Huffman. (3) On5-20-1905 toFlorence McNew. Note: His name was listed as Noah KernanJessee on the1876 marriage liscense.

I think there is confusion concerning Noah K. Jessee (b. Dec. 1838)sonof Nancy Counts & Jefferson Jessee. He was married on Aug. 6, 1857toMary Kiser. This Noah K. is a brother of Stanford Lea Jessee (makinghiman uncle to the Noah D. Kernan above.)

There is yet another Noah K. Jessee (b. 10-2-1830, d. 5-11-1909), sonofElizabeth Counts & George Lea Jessee, Sr. He was married toElizabethKiser on Jan 31, 1852.

Well, you're not going to be thrilled. I look Amy Logan up in the 1900KYcensus. I found her in Greenup Co., KY, ED 48, sheet 30. It says shewasborn January of 1871 in VA. So...since Noah and his second wife,EllenC., are my husband's great-great grandparents, I thought I woulddoublecheck. I looked Noah up in 1880 (He's listed as Noel K. Jessee.)This iswhat I found.
1880 Soundex Olive Hill, Carter Co., KY
Noel K. Jessee, 40, born VA
Ellen C. (w), 21, VA
Phoebe L. (d), 13, VA (daughter from first marriage to Mary Kiser)
Sarah D. (d), 6, VA
Van King (s), 9/12, KY
If Amy was Noah's daughter, she should have been listed here. I alsowentover the Jessee soundexes for 1880 for both VA and KY and did notsee anAmy F. or Florence or anything similar for any Jessee family. Ofcourse,it's possible I missed it. While there is a gap between thechildren ofMary and the children of Ellen, there's no proof there wasanother childin that gap. I don't know exactly when Mary died butEllen's first child,Sarah, was born March 12, 1873. Please let me knowif you find outanything for sure.

Russell Co. Va. vital records lists a Female Jessee born on 07 July1871to Noah and Mary Jessee. I thought that maybe this could be AmyF.Thanks, Marie

I was reading your info on Amy Jessee. Some of the info isdisputedthere. Also I have some questions.
According to someone who has showed me no documentation, Amy had a
sister Melissa and a sister Grace. They said her mother wasNannieJesse. Have you ever heard of this? As I say, she offered noproof ofanything, just took my info and gave me bits and pieces I havenot beenable to verify any of it.
All I know for sure of Amy Jessee is the fact she is supposed to betheGreat Aunt of my grandfather Milford Caudell. b. 1898 1 1/2 milesfromGreenup, Greenup Co., KY. This info given to my cousin in 1968,fromMilford's 1st wife our grandmother Ethel Bradley Caudell .
Any help would be appreciated.
Milford's parents were David Caudill and Melissa Baker. both of KY

Here is the information I know is correct.
Amy Logan was a magistrate during WWII in Greenup. I have neververifiedthis info, but it is from my grandmother given to my cousin in1968.
Melissa Baker was the mother of Milford Caudell [this name is on his
marriage liscnse and on his social security applacation] his fatherwasDavid Crockett Caudell. I am assuming Melissa is the niece of AmyLogan.I have no proof. Melissa Baker's parents were Wash Baker andHannahKiser. I have no documentation on any of this. I must be missinga piecesomewhere. Please share this info with the Jessee list if youwant to.

2342. Nancy "Nan" Kiser/ (or Counts Logan)

Source: Jennifer Jesse (JLJesse@aol.com) sent, 6/21/2000,informationregarding Nancy Counts. "I have been trying to call allkinds of familytoday and haven't been able to reach any one except oursome of ourcousins in Olivehill. That was no help. They live rightin the heart oftheir history and don't have a clue. I was trying tofind out Nancy's(wife of Daniel) maiden name. No one knows. I stillthink she was aCounts. I do remember my dad telling me that she wasvery tall for awoman of her times and she was extremely darkcomplexioned. I wentthough some old papers to confirm my memories andnext to her name itsaid--half black/half Cherokee. I'm going to seeif Orville Kiser isstill alive and talk to him if he is. He told methat she wasn't blackbut was very tall, dark, and presumed Cherokee.... [later] I also foundout that Nancy Jessee (who was married toDaniel Jesse) was a Countsthough I am not sure if it was by marriageto her first husband."

Sent 7/31/2000. Talking about looking in your own backyard! IthinkNancy "Counts" Jesse (who was married to Daniel E.P. Jessee) wasNancyKiser. I located this information on ncestry.families.aol.com.The datesmatch--21 January 1861 - 22 August 1911 in Carter Co, KY. Itlists herspouse as Daniel Jessee but lists no children.

I found following death record for Carter Co, KY:

KY Death Certificate Nancy C. Jessee(married)
b. 24 Jan 1861 VA
d. 22 Aug 1911 Pleasant Valley, Carter Co, KY
parents-Noah K. Jessee b.VA & Polly Kiser b. VA
informant-Daniel Jessee
address-Counts Road
burial-Jessee Cemetery 23 Aug 1911

The birth & death dates coincide with your database for Nancy Kiser2ndwife of
Daniel E.P. Jessee.

If this death record is accurate then her g-mother on one side wasNancyCounts wife of Jefferson
Jessee & her g-father on the other side was Noah Kiser son of Abednego&Mary "Polly"
Jessee Kiser.

Subject: Re: Nancy "Nan" Kiser?? 2nd Wife of Daniel E. P. Jessee
First, I looked for death records for Nancy & Daniel E P Jesseechildren, but didn't find
any that would indicated Nancy's maiden name so all I have to go onisher death record.
In your database that would make her father, Noah K. Jessee(I3153).
I found Noah K Jessee in 3 census as follows:
1860 Russell census indicated Noak K was 21(b.1839) & Mary was21(b.1839)
with 1 child:Martha C(4 mo). Lived in Lebanon pt 13 household #430.
1870 Lebanon, Russell Co, VA census #313-Noah Jessee b. 1840 VA & Mary
Jessee b. 1840 VA with 2 children:NANCY b. 1861 & Phoba b. 1867/
$175 personal property/works on farm/
1880 Olive Hill, Carter Co, KY census #141-Noel K. Jessee b. 1840VAVA/VA
& Ellen C. Jessee b. 1859 VA VA/VA with 3 children:Phoebe L. b.1867VA,
Sarah b. 1874 VA & Van King b. Sep 1879 KY

In your database, you have Ellen C. as a child, but I believe she ishiswife in 1880.

Noah's daughter Nancy is listed in the 1870 Russell Co, VA census, thenby 1880 the
family is in Olive Hill, Carter Co, KY but Nancy doesn't appear inthehousehold.

According to the 1900 census Nancy married Daniel E. P. Jessee abt1888:
1900 Carter Co, KY census-Dan Jessee b. 1829 & Nan Jessee b. Jan 1861w/6
children:Dan b. Nov 1886 KY, May b. Jan 1889 KY, Gracey b. Dec1891
KY, Rettie b. Nov 1892 KY, Logan b, Jun 1895 KY & Georgie b. Nov1897
KY/married 12 yrs/8 children/8 still alive/Mag dist 5/farmer

Nancy could have been previously married, since the the 1900censusindicates
she had had 8 children & all 8 were still alive but there were only6children in this
household with Daniel.

On the other hand, the 1910 census indicated Nancy C. Jessee hadbeenmarried
only once & Daniel married twice:
1910 Pleasant Valley, Carter Co, KY census #26-Daniel E. Jessee b.1830VA/
VA/VA & Nancy C. Jessee b. 1861 VA/VA/VA with 5 children:Dannieb.1887,
Gracie b. 1891, Rhettie b. 1893, Logan b. 1896 & George W. b.1898/
married 23 yrs/2nd marriage for Daniel/1st marriage for Nancy C./

So in my database, I only have this Nancy C. Jessee married once
with her parents as Noah K. & Mary "Polly" Kiser Jessee
This would make her g-parents, Jefferson & Nancy Counts Jessee
& her other g-parents, Noah & Dicie Thompson Kiser.

reads that her first husband was Jefferson Jessee (born about 1830).Italso says she was born 21 January 1861 and died 22 August 1911. Sothiscould mean that Nancy's first husband was the son of Elanore,Daniel'sfirst wife, and Elanore's first husband, Archer."

I, too, feel that Daniel E.P. Jessee is the son of Martin andJane(Price) Jessee. Jennifer Jesse [above] writes that NancyCount(?)Jessee's tombstone reads that her first husband was JeffersonJessee. Iwill pass on a bit of information she may or may not have. OnPage 174 ofVan Landingham's Lee and Adjacent Counties - - is a listingof thechildren of Martin and Jane Jessee. One of the sons listed isDaniel E.P.Jessee, born ca. 1829 and the next child was a Jefferson, born ca. 1830.1 wonder if perhaps Nancy's first husband, JeffersonJessee, died and shethen married his brother, Daniel E.P. Jessee? Justa thought. I have notfound anything regarding this particularJefferson Jessee in RussellCounty .. possibly he went to Kentucky?
Eleanore Smythe was married first to Archer Jessee, son of John &Polly(Armstrong) Jessee, and their children were Margaret, George,Andrew,John and Mary. After Archer died, she married Daniel E.P.Jessee, 20years her junior, and they had no children.
