Marion was known throughout his adult life as "Jack LATIMER'. His adoption was finalized by George M. and Belle LATIMER on January 13, 1915. His birth parents were listed as Gertrude Estella DURETTE and Harvey Thomas HALSEY.

Jack spent his early years near Watsonville, California with the LATIMERs and attended high school in Carpenteria, California. He was very talented musically: sang, danced and played many instruments. He met Mabel while working in a malt shop in Santa Barbara. Jack worked at odd jobs during the depression era: mined in Nevada, worked crops in San Joaquin Valley, worked for the WPA on Los Angeles River project, worked in oil fields in Southern California. In 1942 he moved his family to Las Vegas, Nevada and worked in a magnesium plant. He was classified as an 'alien' because of the lack of a birth certificate, so the family returned to Southern California and Jack hired Cora WEBB's attorney to trace his birth. This led to locating "lost" siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins in Northern California. Jack then worked for the railroad in Red Bluff, California, and at summer fruit crops in order to be near his birth relatives. About 1944, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to work in the Kaiser Shipyards at Richmond, California. In 1946 he started his own business building 'tear-drop' trailers: logo, "Jack-Bilt". Later, he switched to cabinet making and home construction. Ill health kept him confined to home much of the last 15 years of his life.

Mabel and Marion had the following children:

  1. George Francis LATIMER (Living)
  2. Joan Rhea LATIMER (Living)
  3. Brett Morgan LATIMER
