Quentin Herman Lewis Sr. died January 23 in Bristol, Tenn. He was 90 years old. Born in Partridge, he was a son of the late Willie F. and Ada Dixon Lewis, and was a brother of the late Edwin R. Lewis, Irene Reynolds and Willa Mullins. Lewis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bristol, Va., for more than 50 years, where he was deacon, taught Sunday School, and was a chairperson of the church board administration. He was reared at the Junior Order United American Mechanics orphanage in Tiffin, Ohio, where he and his brothers and sisters were placed after the death of their father, Willie Franklin Lewis in 1923 of typhoid during an outbreak of a typhoid epidemic. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Society of Professional Engineers. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Army Reserve. Surviving are his wife, Jean Hembree Lewis; a son, Quentin Lewis Jr. of Bristol, Va.; a daughter, Leigh Stewart of Morristown, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Meredith Stewart of Durham, N.C.; Catherine Stewart of Alexandria, Va.; and Jennifer Stewart of Charlestown, S.C.; and a sister, Evaleen "Pat" Towery of Austin, Tex. Funeral services were held January 26 at the First Baptist Church. Burial was in the Mountain View Cemetery in Bristol.
