Florence Maggard born Oct. 22, 1905 departed this live on Aug. 7, 2008 at the Hyden Nursing Home. She was 102 years, 9 months and 15 days old. Florence was born at Cutshin, KY, the daughter of James Lewis & Martha Jane Maggard. She was baptized in the Church of Christ & was a member of the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ, Smilax, KY. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, vegetable & flower gardening as hobbies. Florence was a life long resident of Leslie Co. residing at 5895 Coon Creek Rd. Wooton, KY at the time of her death.

Florence was proceeded in death by three sons: Alonzo, Coy, Frank, Oley; one daughter: Eeldie Maggard; two brothers and four sisters. Mrs. Florence Maggard leaves surviving the following relatives; one son: James & Mallie Maggard; four daughters: Delsie Adams, Elsie Baker, Elva & Bonnell Bentley, and Betty & David Day, She is survived by one brother: Ray Lewis, 28 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, 22 great great grandchildren and a host of other treasured relatives and friends to mourn her death.

Funeral services for Mrs Florence Maggard were conducted at 1:00 P.M. Sunday August 10, 2008 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Billy Joe Lewis & Rev Larry Lewis officiating. The interment followed in the Florence Maggard Cemetery located on Coon Creek Rd.

The following grandsons served as pallbearers: Tommy Bubnick, Frank Bubnick, Bobby Dean Bentley, Dr Scotty Day, Michael Day, James Maggard Jr, Eddie Joe Adams, Keith Adams, Roy Napier & Dr Randall Napier.

HYDEN - Roscoe Day, born March 1, 1915 departed this life on Dec 23, 2008 at the age of 93 years, 9 months and 23 days old. He was born at Cutshin, KY the son of the late William H. Day and the late Mallie Maggard Coots. Roscoe was a retired coal miner having been employed by the Blue Diamond Coal Co, Leatherwood, KY. He had over 29 years of service in the mining industry. Roscoe was a member of the United Mine Workers and Southern Labor Union. He had also served in the three C's camp during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and pick-up trucks as hobbies. Roscoe was affiliated with the Church of Christ and had been a life-long resident of Leslie County, KY, living at 6194 Cutshin Rd, Smilax, KY, at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents: William Day and Mallie Coots, one son-in-law: Don Wax and a host of treasured brothers and sisters. He leaves surviving the following relatives: his loving and devoted wife of 70 years: Callie Miniard Day of Smilax, KY; one son: Edward Day of Harrodsburg, KY; four daughters: Irene Wax of Big Stone Gap, VA, Ulene Lewis and husband Fred Lewis of Hyden, KY, Arlene Alsgaard and husband, Dr. Hartley Alsgaard of Yankton, SD, Orlene McEachern of Harrodsburg, KY; one sister: Polly Cornett of Hazard, KY. Also survived by ten grandchildren: Clyde Franks, Edward Franks, Karen Chase, Regina Davis, Cheryl Lewis, Melissa Sparks, Dawn Marie Day, Paxton Alsgaard, Hannah Callie Alsgaard, Travis McEachern and by 15 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and a host of other treasured relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Roscoe Day will be held at 11am Fri, Dec 26, 2008 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis and Danny Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Roscoe and Callie Day Cemetery located at Smilax, KY. The following will serve as pallbearers: Clyde Franks, Edward Franks, Paxton Alsgaard, Travis McEachern, Rodney Coots and honorary pallbearer, nephew, Billy Ray Coots. Maggard, Ozie, 90, of Louisville, returned to her Heavenly Father, Wednesday November 14, 2007. She was a former cook for the Jefferson County Schools and a member of the Maryville Church of God. Ozie leaves to cherish her memory a son, Walter Maggard; daughters, Jody Wilson and Aleen Long; brother Roscoe Day; sister, Polly Cornette; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visiting for Mrs. Maggard will be 3-8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home, with services to be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial in Hebron Cemetery.

Mr Boyd Maggard born April 28, 1927 passed away Feb. 4, 2008 at the age of 77 years, 9 months & 6 days. He was born at Hazard, KY the son of the late Morrell Maggard & Matilda Whitehead Maggard. He was a life long resident of Leslie Co. KY and by occupation Boyd was a retired owner & operator for Maggard Furniture Store and he was a retired coal miner. He was a member of the Leslie Co. Fish & Game Club, he assisted with the July 4th Wildlife Day, he was a member of the League of KY sportsman & also a member of the Hyden Lions Club. Boyd enjoyed hunting & fishing.

Boyd Maggard was preceded in death by; his parents, Morrell & Matilda Whitehead Maggard; one daughter: Mary Gail Eversole; two brothers: Elmer Maggard & Gordon Maggard; two sisters: Goldie Maggard & Nora Baker; one son in law: Joe Mosley; half brothers & half sisters.

He is survived by the following relatives: his wife: Fern Maggard; one son: Rodney Maggard; two daughters: Janice Causey & Harold and Wanda Mosley; one brother: Okey Maggard; two sisters: Eunice Pennington & Zona Day. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives & friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services for Mr Boyd Maggard were held at 1:00 P.M. Monday Feb. 7, 2005 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Mack Lewis officiating. Burial followed in the Morrell Maggard Family Cemetery at Wolfe Creek, KY. The following served as pallbearers: Harold Causey, Darrell Callahan, Charles Boyd Sizemore, Tim Sizemore, Kenneth Pennington, Tyler Rohn, Brandon Mosley & Billy Keith Sizemore.
