How many Nancy Maggards were they? This is what I believe is my Nancy Maggard.
Nancy Jane Maggard (b. Jan16,1856 in Letcher Co., KY) Source from Letcher Co.. KY birth records, Her parents were Isaac Maggard and Mahala Gilley. Nancy Maggard died between 1894-1900. I think she died in 1897 because her youngest son (My great Grandfather, Ivory Williams, a twin, born in 1894) always said his mother died when he was 3 yrs. old. Nancy Jane Maggard married a Samuel C. Williams August22,1974. He was showed as a Widower in the 1900 Letcher Co.K.Y.Census.
They had the following children; Henry, David, Mary J., Alford, Martha, Dora B., and twins, Irvine and Ivory Williams b. 3-6-1894. Ivory is my G.Grandfather. Does anyone have anything on this Samuel C. Williams. Like who his parents were or anything else - Paul

246. Moses (John's Mose) Maggard

If this is the right Moses Maggard in the 1860 census an Elenor Pace age 21 was living with them.
1860 list him as age 30...compared to what I have as 1824????
Also he is listed with an Elizabeth "Pace" which I am finding difficult to verify that marriage ever occured
The dates seem to be quite off for the 1860 census compared to what I already had....something is wrong.

He is 3 doors away from parents John and Sarah
He is 2 doors from brother Gilbert and Nancy
He is next door to supposed 1st cousin Moses (Branch) and Ruth
He is next door to brother John and Matilda

247. Samuel Maggard

The following is from the John Jay Dickey diary:
Samuel Maggard
January 20, 1898
I am a brother of Reuben Maggard. I was born in Harlan County, now Letcher, January 20, 1826. I am 72 years old today. I think my grandfather came from North Carolina. My grandmother was a Robison. My mother was an Adams. In 1847 my father removed to Cutshin two miles below the Fords. My father's children were Henry, Issac, Moses, Samuel, Jesse, John, Reuben, Gilbert, Polly, Rebecca, Nancy, and Sallie. =============================================================================
Note from Dave Maggard
John A. was a veteran of The Civil War Pvt of Capt Shadrach Combs Company D, 3 Forks Battalion of Kentucky. (He was denied a Civil War Pension reason stated: the 3 Forks Batallion Co D was not registered with the U.S. Army Dept of Defense, or they had no record of it ) His military records described him as being of dark complexion, black hair and black eyes. He died on Jan 28, 1911 and is buried in the Brewer Cem at Wooton, Ky in Leslie County along with his wife Matilda Miniard/Maggard.
Note: The John A. Maggard homesite was located on Cutshin Creek in Leslie County about a mile below the mouth of Flackey Creek on the right side of the river going downstream The old rock chimney is still standing where the hewn log cabin stood. however, the old cabin either fell or burned several years ago. My father rented the farm back in the twenties and early thirties to raise corn and other crops in the big bottom we called "The John A. Place" he hauled the corn home in a 1926 model T. ford which he had built a truck bed on from a sedan and when he drove the old T Model on Flackey, they gave him plenty of room and stayed a safe distance away !!
