A daughter of the late Orville and Louie Collins Stidham, she was born in Letcher County, KY. She died September 4, 2007 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY. Mrs. Napier was retired from the 4-H Camp at Jabez. She was the widow of Irvin Napier and the sister of the late Faye Miller. Funeral services for Keith Edward Napier, 50, will be held tomorrow (Thursday) May 31, 2007 in Independence, Kenton Co, KY. Burial will be in the Independence Cemetery, Independence, Kenton Co KY. A son of Pauline Boggs Napier of Independence, KY and the late Carl E. Napier, he was a brother of the late Gary Wayne Napier. He died May 26, 2007 at St. Luke East Hospital in Fort Thomas, Campbell Co KY. Napier served in the military in Desert Storm, and retired from the Army in 1991. He attended True Vine Church. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Karen Joy Back Napier; two daughters, Adrienne Napier, Independence, and Stephanie Caudill, Raeford, N.C.; a son, Carl James (C.J.) Narramore, Durward Edward Sr.

Durward Edward Narramore Sr. died October 4, 2007 at his home at Jenkins, KY. He was 87 years old. Born at Rockwood, Tenn., he was a son of the late William Edward and Jannie McClendon Narramore. He was married to the late Helen Louise Gilliam Narramore. He was retired from Bethlehem Coal Company and worked for a number of years for Tackett-Manning Coal Company. He also owned and operated Narramore Tires for many years. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Jenkins and the Shriners, and was a lifetime member of Jenkins Masonic Lodge. Surviving are three daughters, Margaret Lewis and husband Richard and Lana Shubert and husband Robert "Pud", all of Jenkins, KY, and Lois Johnson, Frankfort, KY; a son, Durward Narramore Jr. and wife Deborah Lynn, Jenkins, KY; 10 grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; a brother, Owen Narramore, Rockwood, Tenn.; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. Former Millstone, Kentucky resident Maxine Newsome, 75, died June 22, 2007 at her home in Gary, Ind. She was a daughter of the late John and Jesse Reeves Wilson. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jack Newsome; a son, Jack Newsome Jr. and wife Donna; three sisters, Ruth Wilson, Barbara Wilson Gibson, and Ouida Wilson Bradley; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. James Robert Nichols died September 20, 2007 in Lexington, KY. He was 58 years old. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and enjoyed reading and carpentry. He was retired from Limited Brands, Columbus, Ohio; was a U.S. Army veteran; and a member of Stateline Apostolic Church. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Catherine Bradford Osborne; four brothers, Hassel Hamilton, Ralph Osborne, Lacy Osborne and Larry Osborne; and three sisters, Betty Peart, Menda Fitzpatrick and Debra Fillinger. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008 in the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Lacy Osborne, Burnin White Jr. and ministers of the Penny Road Community Church officiating. Norman W. Preston Sr., 86, of Chapel Hill, Tenn., formerly of Jenkins, KY, died September 11, 2008. A son of the late E.H. and Ivy Reed Preston, he was married to the late Opal Lester Preston. Preston was retired from Beth-Elkhorn Corp., where he was division shipping clerk. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was the recipient of six Bronze Stars. For 18 years he served as treasurer of Camp Caleb Christian Camp and Conference Center. He was a former member of Gideons International and was a former deacon of Burdine Freewill Baptist Church. He was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. Surviving are two sons, Woody Preston and wife Janice, Nicholasville, and Bill Preston and wife Lana, Chapel Hill; a sister, Nelle Looney, Monroe, N.C.; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held September 15, 2008 at the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church. Burial was in the Laurel Fork Cemetery.

John Charles Pugh, 61, died May 2, 2008 at his home in Indianapolis, Ind. Born at Blackey, KY, he was a son of Irene Pugh Barnes and the late Clyde Pugh. He worked at Navastar in Indianapolis for 30 years before retiring. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Wanda Hawks Pugh; a son, Eric Pugh; a daughter, Sasha Pugh; five stepsons, Marty, Mike, Mark, Morris, and Tim; a sister, Betty Allen; an aunt, Peggy Bach-Watts; a grandson; 21 step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Quillen, Gladys Oliver

Gladys Oliver Quillen, 89, of Whitesburg, KY, died July 27, 2007 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, KY. A daughter of the late John C. and Belle Browning Oliver, she was the widow of Sidney A. Quillen and a member of the Holiness Pentecostal Church and Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was the mother of the late John Quillen, the grandmother of the late April Bates, and the sister of the late Bruce Oliver. Surviving are five sons, Bruce Quillen, Northbrook, Ill.; Pete Quillen, Moe Quillen, and Don Quillen, all of Jeremiah, KY; and Harry Quillen, Roxana, KY; three daughters, Betty Bates and Geraldine Day, both of Whitesburg, KY, and Linda Begley, Camp Branch, KY; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Oliver, Columbus, Ohio; 23 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 30, 2007 at Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial was in the Isaacs Cemetery at Deane, 2007. Letcher Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
