Skaggs of Cordell, have been notified that their son Okel has been killed in action. He was born at Relief on Wednesday, March 19, 1924, and was living in this county when he entered the service on Wednesday, June 17, 1943. He is a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelious Skaggs, Gillem Branch.

Obituary December 1985, Skaggs, Pearlie Marie Ferguson: Mrs. Pearlie Marie Skaggs, 82, of Cordell in Lawrence County, died Saturday afternoon in the J. J. Jordan Geriatric Center in Louisa after a long illness.
Mrs. Skaggs was born at Relief, Ky., a daughter of the late Elliott and Martha Hammonds Ferguson. Her husband, John M. Skaggs, died in 1969.
She was a member of the Low Gap Enterprise Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Hobert Skaggs of Blaine and Homan Skaggs of Grove City, Ohio; four sisters, Mrs. Ruria Vanover of Flatwoods, Mrs. Julia Ferguson of Relief, Mrs. Alta Williams of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mrs. Irene Sturgill of Martha; two brothers, Estill Ferguson of Springfield, Ohio, and William Ferguson of Relief; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the Young Funeral Home in Louisa.
Burial will be in the Skaggs family cemetery at Cordell. The body is at the funeral home, where friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today.
