Obituary: Douglas Fairbanks Banks Bentley
29 Aug 1927 - 6 Mar 1993

Douglas Fairbanks Bentley, son of the late Andrew Jackson Bentley and Maryland (Burke) Bentley, was born at Eddy, Kentucky on August 25, 1927. He passed from this life at the Whitesburg Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky on Saturday, March 6, 1993, making his stay here on earth 65 years, 6 months and 11 days.

Banks, as most everyone knew him, has been ill for the past several months, but his passing was sudden and unexpected. Besides his parents, one sister, Annie Elkins, also preceded him in death. Banks married Betty Jo Mullins at Neon, Kentucky on April 11, 1951. He was a retired miner, having worked in the coal fields for over 32 years. He has been a member of the United Mine Workers of America for well over 22 years.

Banks is survived by his wife Betty Jo of Jackhorn, Ky; daughter: Anita Dale Issac of Jackhorn, Ky; sons: Travis, Chuck, Mike, Roy Dale and Tim, all of Jackhorn, Ky; sisters: Hazel May Johnson of Eddy, Ky; Barbara Ellen Strange of Letart, W.Va.; Janie Marie Yarber of Loraine, Ohio; and brother: William Thomas Bentley of Jackhorn.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Betty Jane Bentley, age 78, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday October 30, 2012, at her home. She was born on October 28, 1934, at Myra, Kentucky, moved to Jackhorn, Kentucky, in 1954, and lived the rest of her life in Jackhorn. She was a mother and a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Goosecreek. She was a daughter of the late Francis Marion Mullins & Louanza Elkins Mullins, and was the widow of Douglas “Banks” Bentley. Mrs. Bentley was also preceded in death by five sisters, Goldie Johnson, Eva Berger, Bonnie Bentley, Louise Johnson, and Carol Mullins; and two brothers, Edward Mullins, and Jack Mullins.

Survivors include a daughter, Anita Isaac, Jackhorn, Kentucky; five sons, Travis Bentley, Nancy, Kentucky, Chuck Bentley, Russell Springs, Kentucky, Michael Bentley, Deane, Kentucky, Roy Bentley and Tim Bentley, both of Jackhorn, Kentucky; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Orville Mullins, Virgie, Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was on Thursday November 1, 2012, at Carty Funeral Home, Neon, KY. Funeral services were conducted on Friday November 12, 2012, at the funeral home chapel, with Kenneth Holbrook, officiating. Interment followed at Green Acres Cemetery.
