Obituary: Prentice Arnold Burke
6 Mar 1914 - 29 Apr 1996

Prentice Arnold Burke, son of the late George Washington and Maggie Stewart Burke, was born in Pike County, Kentucky, on March 6, 1914. He died en route to Holstein Valley Hospital on Monday, April 29, 1996, making him 82 years, 1 month and 23 days of age at the time of his death. Prentice was a retired coal miner, having worked in mines for 39 years. In addition, he was one of the founding members of the United Mine Workers of America, having spent over 50 years with this organization. Prentice was preceded in death by great grandson, James Patrick Burke, Brother Floyd Burke and sister Marybelle Burke.

Survivors include his wife Sarah Burke of Jackhorn; sons; Jimmie Ray Burke; Kenneth Roy Burke, both of McRoberts; James Arnold Burke of Guston, KY; daughters: Barbara Morgan and Vivian Meeks, both of McRoberts; brothers: Roy Burke of Kingsport, TN; Herbert Burke of Clarksville, IN; sisters: Florida Massey of Mansfield, OH; Millie Noles of Portsmouth, OH; Millie Noles of Portsmouth, OH; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Prentice Arnold Burke were conducted from the McRoberts Old Regular Baptist Church at McRoberts, Kentucky on Thursday, May 2, 1996 at 2 p.m.

The officiating ministers were Ministers of the Church while Joey and Jeffery Burke, Steven Meeks, Patrick and Mike Burke, Tony Wilder, Chris Gooch, Dave Martin, Keith Yonts and Bryan Gooch served as pallbearers. Burial took place in the Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine, Kentucky. Banks Funeral Home of Fleming-Neon, Kentucky was in charge of the arrangements.

Sarah Elizabeth (Tackett) Burke, 89 (April 4, 1919 - July 31, 2008), went to be with the Lord on July 31, 2008. A daughter of Silas and Inas (Cook) Tackett, of McRoberts, Kentucky and the widow of Prentice Arnold Burke. She was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church at McRoberts, Kentucky for 51 years. She leaves behind her loving family of two daughters: Barbara Morgan (Jack) and Vivian Sergent (Wayne) both of McRoberts, Kentucky. One daughter-in-law: Allie Burke (Kenneth) of McRoberts, Kentucky. Two sons: Jimmy Ray (Carol) of McRoberts, Kentucky and James Arnold (Shirley) of Irvington, Kentucky. 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters: Ollie Sexton and Aileen Meade of Jackhorn, Kentucky. One brother: Burnette Tackett of Deane, Kentucky.

Preceeding her in death was her husband of 60 years, Prentice Arnold Burke; one son: Kenneth Roy Burke; one great-grandson: James Patrick Burke and eight brothers: Lowell Thomas; George Smith; Daniel Van; Johnnie; McKinley; Curtis; Rush and Johnce Tackett. Visitation was Saturday, August 2nd, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the Carty Funeral Home, in Neon, Kentucky. The funeral was held on Sunday, August 3rd, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the McRoberts Old Regular Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in the Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine, Kentucky. Officiating minister was Robert Waggoner. Pallbearers were the grandsons. In lieu of flowers you may make a contribution in her memory to Hospice of the Bluegrass, Hazard, Kentucky or The McRoberts Old Regular Baptist Church, P.O. Box 43, McRoberts, KY 41835.

Jack Morgan, 79, of Hazard, Ky. formerly of McRoberts, Ky., passed away January 21, 2019, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard, Ky. Mr. Morgan was the son of the late Carl and Ethel Brown Morgan. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Burke Morgan.; Two daughters, Robin Morgan of Pineville, Ky. and Cynthia ( Chris) Gooch of Hazard, Ky.; One sister: Virginia Morgan of McRoberts, Ky.; Three grandchildren: Whitney ( Josh) Howard, Jonah Gooch ( fiance Hannah Mullis), and Cassidy Gooch; One Great-Grandchild, Lillian Howard. He was preceded in death by one sister, Martha Yates and a special cousin, Ronald Crosbie. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 25, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Neon First Church of God with Mark Wagner, Chris Dool, and Bishop Willie Lamb officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 24, 2019, during the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Kenneth B. Gooch Cemetery at Deane, Ky.

Barbara Sue Burke Morgan, 79 of Hazard formerly of McRoberts, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center. Barbara was the daughter of the late Prentice and Sarah Tackett Burke. She was the widow of Jack Morgan. Barbara was a member of the Deane Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. Surviving is 2 daughters: Robin Morgan of Pineville and Cynthia (Chris) Gooch of Hazard; 2 brothers: Jemmie (Carol) Burke of Neon and James (Linda) Burke of Brandenburg; 1 sister: Vivian Sergent of McRoberts; 3 grandchildren: Whitney (Josh) Howard of Pineville, Jonah Gooch and fiancee: Hannah of Hazard, and Kassidy Gooch of Hazard; 1 great grandchildren: Lillian; sisters-in-law: Allie Burke of McRoberts, Virginia Morgan of McRoberts, and Peggy Crosbie of Lexington; special friend: Connie Hurt of Hazard. Barbara was preceded in death by her grandparents: G.W. and Maggie Burke and Silas and Inas Tackettt; 1 brother: Kenneth Burke. Funeral: 1:00 O'clock P.M. Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the Deane Baptist Church with Chris Dool and Mark Wagoner officiating. Visitation: 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. Friday at the Deane Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Kenneth B. Gooch Cemetery at Deane, Kentucky.
