Obituary: Polly Ann Mattingly Combs
3 May 1830 - 7 Apr 1912

Combs -- Most everybody knew "Aunt Polly Ann" Combs, and it was with feelings of sadness and sorrow that the words passed from lip to lip, announcing her sudden death. The day before her crossing over on the other side she was in her usual health, and none had any thought other than she would live many days longer; but, like a weary child, she folded her hands and, with a smile on her face, passed over the river that all must cross - died Sunday night at 8 o'clock at her home on High street. Funeral services were held at thome on Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. V. Cropper surrounded by a number of relatives and friends. Interment in the old cemetery, in town, where many of her loved ones have been carried before. She leaves to mourn their loss, besides a large circle of friends, a son, Mr. W. J. Combs, and two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Morgan and Mrs. Susan Eversole; eighteen grand children, fifty-six great grand children and seven great-great grand children - the most of whom were present. From the home, all that was mortal placed in the casket by loving hands, and carried by sympatizing friends to her last resting place on earth. The bright, sun-shiny afternoon following the day made memorial by the risen Christ, was enough to bring the though ot at someday again meeting in that land where all is peace and joy. The many relatives and many friends sympatuize with them in their loss. Source.
