From Mike Keith, s/o Sandra Sue Fleming b 1956; d/o James Bradley Fleming and Verlie Tackett Mike Keith wrote the following in about 2008.
I hope I have the right e-mail. I seen a little map of Sheas Fork, (McRoberts, KY) on the Potter Family page and a posting of wanting to hear from others that lived there in the 50's and 60's. I am Mike Keith and I have been tracing my mothers family history. We just got back from McRoberts KY on Sunday. I am 30 yrs old and this was the first time my mom has agreed to take me and my sister were she grew up. She grew up on Sheas Fork Rd. Her name was Sandra Sue Fleming. She had five other brothers and sisters. Her parents were James "Bradley" Fleming and Verlie Fleming. My mom was born in 1956. We went to the exact place where she lived on Friday. The old house burnt down sometime in the late 60's. It was on the right side of Sheas. There is a doublewide sitting there now and it has a brook or stream running in front of it. If you lived there in the 50's and 60's you may remember the tragic accident that happened in 1962. My mom moved away in 1970 and never wanted to go back because of this.
In 1962 Bradley and Verlie were going to take their daughters out to the store. Bradley always kept a pistol in the glove box but decided to take it out while they went to town. When Verlie handed Bradley the gun it went off and shot Bradley in the hand and Verlie in the chest. She died 3 months later at the age of 32. My mom was 7 years old. On Friday while we were looking at the old home place and man and his wife drove by and stopped to talk. His first question was "Are ya'll Bradleys family". I couldn't believe it. I cant remember his name but he is 65 and lived on Sheas all his life. He told us some stories about my mom and her family and he also told us more about the night of the accident.
If you know or remember any of this or have any stories or know of anyone I can talk to about this family it would be great. My sister and me are planning another trip to Mcroberts in October. We also visited the McRoberts cemetery on Friday. Verlie and her dad is there and all Bradleys brothers and sister and their parents are there. This was the first time my mom has ever been there. It was a great experience for me and am looking forward to coming back several times a year.
