Obituary: Hubert Hall 9 Jan 1928 - 25 Apr 2016
LETCHER COUNTY, Ky (WYMT)- Hubert Hall, Sr who ran Hall Equipment & Supply Company along with his brother died on Monday. He was 88 years-old.
Hall owned and operated Hall Equipment & Supply Company with his brother Carl, of Whitesburg.
The company, with offices and warehouses at Sandlick and Isom, provided mining equipment and supplies to the coal industry for decades.
Hall, who got his start in the mining equipment business with Kentucky-West Virginia Armature Company's Letcher County branch, was a former chairman of the executive committee of the Letcher County Democratic Party and was a member of Whitesburg Masonic Lodge #754.
Hubert was born January 2, 1928, to Harve and Callie Adkins Hall on Rockhouse in Letcher County.
He was the eldest of five children and preceded in death by sisters Janice Hall and Eunice Mounts.
He is survived by brothers Ivan Hall of Lexington and Carl Hall of Whitesburg.
On February 24, 1945, Hubert and his sweetheart, Bessie Lee Banks, drove a coal truck to be married. Their love persisted through sickness and health, joy and sorrow. Hubert and Bessie proudly raised three children: Dr. Janet Hall Jones of Lexington; Dr. Hubert Hall, Jr., of Lexington; and Joan Hall Ward of Whitesburg.
Hubert enthusiastically and unconditionally loved, supported, and encouraged his grandchildren: Callie Jones of Baker, LA; Cara Jones Faye of Annecy, France; Dr. Ashley Hall Bowen of Lexington; J. Tyler Ward II, Esquire, of Whitesburg; H. Andrew Hall III of Lexington; and Dr. Calvin Ward of Columbus, OH.
Seeing his great-grandchildren energized and brought joy to Hubert: Tidiane and Adia Faye of Annecy, France; Emma Grace Hall of Lexington; and Olivia Bowen of Lexington.
After Bessie's death in 1989, Hubert enjoyed the company of his special companion, June Breeding. June's son, Jamie Breeding, of Lexington continued as a special part of Hubert's life after his mother's death.
During the coal boom of the 1970s, Hubert, his wife Bessie, and his brother Carl, built Hall Equipment & Supply Co. Hubert traveled throughout the coalfields making friends and selling mining equipment and supplies. Through his success, what really brought Hubert the most joy was people. Hubert loved people. Whether talking politics over coffee with friends, to hosting annual family reunions, watching his grand kids and great-grand kids open gifts at Christmas, or lending a sympathetic and encouraging ear to someone in need, Hubert truly cherished and respected people. Knowing him meant loving him. Hubert actively engaged his community through the Whitesburg Masonic Lodge #754, the Mountain Shrine Club, local and state politics, and supporting youth sporting leagues.
