Obituary: Ernest Hampton,
85, of Miamisburg, OH passed away May 29, 2008 at the Wood Glen Nursing Center,
Dayton, OH. "Ernie" was born in Jeremiah, KY on February 19, 1924 to Wilburn and
Armelda Hampton. He was the next to the youngest of 20 immediate and half
brothers and sisters. After graduating from Stewart Robinson High School, he
joined the Navy. He was proud to have served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII
on the destroyer US McCall (DD400). As times grew tough in eastern Kentucky,
Ernest left for Dayton, OH and took a job with National Cash Register. He
retired from NCR after 32 years. How ironic that Ernest would meet Cleda, the
love of his life in Dayton, who had also left Eastern Kentucky to work at NCR.
They had 56 wonderful years together.
Ernest was a faithful member and Deacon of the First Baptist
Church of Miamisburg for 50 years. He could be found every Sunday morning in the
lobby as a greeter. He dearly loved the church and the church family. They loved
him too. Ernest loved life, was an avid fisherman, UK Wildcat fanatic, and
enjoyed card games, dominoes and checkers.
Ernest is survived by his wife Cleda; son and daughter-in-law,
Terry and Elizabeth Hampton; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jerry Vaughn;
grandchildren, Sara Jane Vaughn-Moore and Jason Robert Brennan, and his sister
Betty Price. Ernest will best be remembered for his endless sense of humor,
quick wit and love of his church and family. Funeral services will be held 10 AM
June 2, 2008 at the First Baptist Church Miamisburg, 340 Tenth St. The family
will receive friends from 2-5 PM June 1, 2008 at the GEBHART-SCHMIDT-PARRAMORE
FUNERAL HOME, 508 E. Linden Ave., Miamisburg, OH. Donations may be made in
Ernest's memory to the First Baptist Church of Miamisburg Building Fund or to
Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.
