Obituary of Maxie L. Potter
CROMONA, Ky. – Maxie L. Potter, 75, passed away Feb. 28, 2004, at her residence
with her family by her side.
She was a longtime resident of Letcher County. Maxie was of the Freewill Baptist
faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Potter, her parents,
McKinney Potter and Dora Mullins Potter, two sons, Teddy Potter and Kenneth Ray
Potter, two sisters and three brothers.
Survivors: daughter, Mattie Jane Fleming, Cromona, Dora Farley, Abingdon,
Charlene Scarlett, Platnium, Fla., and Zelma Wright, Kona, Ky.; sons, Acley
Potter, McRoberts, Ky., Gary Potter, Kona, and George Potter, McRoberts; Sisters, Sadie Fleming, Pound, Sarah Belle Fleming, Peaking,
Ind., Goldie Potter, Jeffersonville, Ind., and Lucy Potter, Haymond, Ky.;
brother, Can Potter, Tennessee; a host of beloved friends and relatives; 21
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be after 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at the Hemphill
Freewill Baptist Church, Neon, Ky. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 1,
2004, in Hemphill Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. Danny Hurst officiating.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Interment will be in the Haven of Rest
Cemetery, Mayking, Ky.

ABINGDON,
Va. – Mr. Bucky Eugene Burke, age 36, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Sept. 18,
2007, in Brunswick, Ga.

Mr. Burke was born in Michigan and was a 1988 graduate of
Jenkins Independent High School in Jenkins, Ky., and had attended East Tennessee
State University in Johnson City, Tenn. Bucky was also very active in the
communities he lived in and had served his country and fellow man in many
capacities. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the 82nd Airborne
during both Operation Desert Shield and in Desert Storm. In 1993 he became the
deputy sheriff of Letcher County, Ky.
Mr. Burke also served as the chief of police for Loyall, Ky.,
and was a police officer with the Veterans Administration Police in Danville,
Ill. After having served in Illinois, he was transferred to Veterans
Administration Police in Mountain Home, Tenn. In 2003, he joined the U.S.
Marshals Service stationed in the District of Columbia with the District Court.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Renattia Burke of Bristol
Tennessee; son, Logan Burke; parents, Jerry and Dora Farley of Abingdon, Va.;
two stepsons, Caleb Gilliam and Justin Gilliam; one brother, Jerry Ray Farley;
one half-sister, Rhonda Abel; and a host of friends and fellow members of the
U.S. Marshals Service.
Funeral Services for Mr. Bucky Eugene Burke will be conducted
at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, in the Highlands Fellowship Church, with
Pastor Greg Coe officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Hills Memory
Gardens, with Graveside Rites by the Rev. John Thrasher and full military honors
accorded by the Highlands Fellowship Honor Guard. The family will receive
friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007 in the Frost Funeral Home
Chapel.
Active pallbearers will be members of the U.S. Marshals
Service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials in his memory be made to
the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058.
