Obituary: Walter Jackson Jack Poe

Walter Jackson Poe better known as Jack age 91 of Lansing died Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Born in Lansing NC on Wednesday, October 30, 1929, he was the middle of five sons of the late Wade and Florence Killens Poe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
Jack graduated from Lansing High School and later served in US Navy during the Korean War from 1948 - 1952, aboard the USS Leyte Air Craft Carrier. He married the former June Riddle on October 21, 1952, in Pikeville, KY.
Mr. Poe worked for Sprague Electric for 36 years as a department leader before retiring. During his spare time, Jack enjoyed being with family and sharing good meals, NFL football, movies, and walking up Long Branch Road where he grew up as a child.
Mr. Poe is survived by his wife of 68 years, June Riddle Poe, three daughters, Cathy Poe Barr of West Jefferson, Deborah Poe Church of Lansing and Tina Poe of Lansing, two brothers, Tom Poe of Wisconsin and Bill Poe of Mocksville, four grandchildren, Jeremy Barr and wife Carlee, Brandon Ashley, Daniel Barr, and wife Heather, and Luke Poe, one great-grandchild, Emma Barr, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2020, at 3:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, Crumpler, NC, by Pastor Paul Woodall. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens, Crumpler, NC, with military rites by the US Navy. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel, Crumpler, NC

Nick Riddle, 72 years of age of Long Fork of Virgie (KY) passed away Sunday, April 03, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Pike Co KY. He was born on October 13, 1943 to the late Willard Riddle Sr and Obie Tackett Riddle.
He was a member of the United Christian Church of God of Hi Hat and had worked as a coal miner.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers; Fred Riddle, James Riddle, Willard Riddle Jr, Jimmy Riddle and Bill Riddle and two half brothers; Bern Slone and Challie Riddle, one sister; Elsie Boyd and three half sisters; Fran Johnson, Nellie Johnson and Nora.
He is survived by his wife; Oma Belcher Riddle, two sons; Donnie (Tammy)Riddle of Betsy Layne, Amos (Leigha) Riddle of Indian Creek, two daughters; Tammy (John) Forsyth of Louisa, Amy (Bobby) Hampton of Long Fork, two brothers; Bruce Riddle and Ernie Riddle both of Virgie, five sisters; Betty Parsons of Waterloo, Ohio, Carol De Bourbon of Pikeville, Janice Bentley of Long Fork, Nola Riddle of Virgie, June Poe of Lansing, NC, six grandchildren; Amanda, Jalyn, Harley, Khloe, Haleigh, Sasha, three great-grandchildren; Baylea, Isaiah and Aron.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 12:00 Noon at the Hall and Jones Funeral Home with Bill Slone officiating. Burial will follow in the Booker Wright Cemetery at Long Fork, Pike Co KY. Visitation will begin on Monday after 6:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Tuesday night services will begin at 7:00 PM.

Elsie Boyd, 81, formerly of Marion and Prospect, died peacefully late Tuesday evening, January 12, 2016 at Marion Manor.
She was born in Etty, KY on May 20, 1934 to the late Willard and Obie Tackett Riddle of Virgie, KY.
Elsie married Lloyd Boyd of Betsy Layne, KY on March 12, 1953. He preceded her in death on December 13, 2012. Elsie was also preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda (Deryl ) Gulliford in 2008, her sister, Fran Johnson, and 7 brothers: Willard Riddle Jr., James Riddle, Fred Riddle, Jimmy Riddle, Challie Riddle, Bill Riddle, and Burn Slone.
She is survived by 3 children: Sharon (Steve) Warner of Highland, IN, Linda (Sam) Newell of Marion, and James Boyd of Green Camp, former daughter-in-law, Amy Boyd, 5 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include 3 brothers: Nick, Bruce, and Ernie Riddle, all of Virgie, KY, and 5 sisters: Betty Parsons of Mansfield, June Poe of Lansing, NC, Carol deBourbon of Pikeville, KY, Nola Riddle and Janice Bentley, both of Virgie, KY.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 18, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect, Marion Co OH, with Pastor Sam Newell officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Prospect, Marion Co OH. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 PM at the funeral home in Prospect, Marion Co OH.
