Clarinda and Doc loved to raise a garden every year, and most of the time had a fine looking garden if the season was not too dry. In there later years they would walk each day, about a mile to their daughter Dora Lee's house to work in the garden. She would can the vegetables that they had raised in preparation for winter. She knew how to shoot a shot gun. A skill she learned as a young girl from down in Kentucky. Clarinda always wore a dress. She was very good at sewing and made clothes and blankets. She loved to cook, especially breakfast in which biscuits and gravy, eggs, and bacon or sausage added in. She and Jolly where members of the Old Regular Baptist Church. They resided in Austin, Scott County, Indiana until their deaths. Children of Clarinda Amburgey and Jolly "Doc" Short;

Daughter of Jolly and Clarinda "Amburgey" Short. Granddaughter of Alexander "Alex" and Jemima 'Mimi' "Sturgill Hall" Short and William Riley "Champion" and Harriet Ritter "Whitaker" Amburgey. Wife of Willis back. Mother of daughter's Laverne, Peggy, and one son Larry Back.

Dora Lee was a small built lady, but full of spunk, not to mention my favorite Aunt. Dora was proud to have come from a Kentucky family, and loved county music. I remember a couple of times when the Grand Ole Opra was on the tv, and she would start to dancing with the music. She had a low toned voice, but did not need to raise it too much as her eyes would open wide with that look that said it all. Dora Lee and Willis lived on the outside town limits of Austin, Indiana heading toward Scottsburg. There home was a small two bedroom home. They raised a garden every years up on the hill above the house. My Grandparents Clarinda and Dock also worked in the same garden with them when they where living. Once as a kid of about 13 -14 years old, I was playing with my Aunt Dora Lee and made a bet with her that she could not catch me to give me a playful spanking. I went running around the house, but little did I realize it but Dora Lee reversed on me and came around the the opposite side of the house. She caught me! She and I laughed about that the last time I was with her and Willis. Dora Lee was know for her brown gravy which everyone enjoyed. Her gravy was always made thin as she liked it that way. My mother always told Dora Lee that it was good, but you have to run to catch it. Both Dora Lee and Willis are missed by all the family and friends.
