Fred Whitaker Former Letcher Co. Passes Away In Texas
Mt. Eagle News, Whitesburg, Ky., August 16, 1956
Services were held in Amarillo, Texas, on August 11th, for Fred Whitaker, a former resident of Letcher County. Mr. Whitaker, 78 years old succumbed at his residence, 107 Ford Ave., after a year of declining health. He was confined to bed only a comparatively short time. Mr. Whitaker was a brother of Dr. Little Whitaker and Jim Whitaker of Cumberland, Dr. Gid Whitaker of Whitesburg, Less Whitaker of Amarillo, Texas, and Mrs. Julia Stamper of Big Springs, Texas. He was married to Louisa Dixon of near Jeremiah. They moved from Kentucky to Texas thirty years ago where he engaged in wheat farming until his retirement. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary four years ago. Mr. Whitaker made a number of trips back to Letcher County visiting among his relatives and friends all of whom regret to learn of his passing. He is survived by his wife, children Clyde, Claude, Vivian, Bonnie, Weldon, J.P., and Bobby Lynn, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grand children, all of whom live in and near Amarillo.
