V. Mary Collins b 1857 KY; m. m. Charlie Unknown. Mary was a sweet little woman who was married to a controlling, overbearing, abusive, mean man. His mother in law bought a house next to her own and gave it to Charlie and Mary. His thanks for her gift was to refuse her the crumbs of ice which dropped on the floor of his ice house when he was breaking the large chunks of ice in to smaller chunks for sale. Jane had no refrigerator or any means of getting a cold drink in the summer time and Charlie forbade her to pick up dropped pieces of ice to wash for cooling his mother in law a glass of water. To enforce this, he built a fence across her steps where she came out of her house on the side facing his ice house. When the family drove by Mary's home and saw her out on the porch and tooted their horns at her, she was forbidden to look to see who was blowing at her. Of course, these were only the small tip of the iceberg where Charlie's evil ways were concerned.
