RE: Elmer Combs, her Father

Hard to believe it has been 17 years since you left this world, Dad. Miss you terribly... Memories of you are all around me. I see you everywhere I look. In your old blue truck, waving as you drive past my house on your way to the barn.

I see you on that old red Allis Chalmers cutting hay in the field behind my house.

There you are walking up and down the aisle way in the barn as you feed and water the horses and again in the garden sticking beans with Mom and Uncle Murl.

In my back yard, planting asparagus at the edge of the garden because you know how much I love that stuff.

I see you on the front porch sitting next to mom breaking beans, till there's enough to make another canner.

I see you in the driveway, shooting free throws with the grandsons and at the age of 84 - still - out shooting every single one of them.

I see you walking through the front door of my house to see my first grandson, Erin's firstborn and hold him in your arms for the first time and then I see you holding Keenan's baby daughter while sitting on the edge of your hospital bed.

I see you rough housing and wrestling on the living room floor with my kids.

I see you sitting in the shade along the tree line next to the garden taking a break from the heat of the day. I see you every day, Dad, in a thousand other places, and I see you every day within my heart. Miss you, love you.
