Pike Farmer, 92, Taken By Death. Caleb Johnson, Jr., is Stricken At Home At Hartley: Infirmities of advanced age, after an illness of six months claimed the life of Caleb Johnson, Sr., ninety-two-year-old farmer, who died at his home at Hartley on the Long Fork of Shelby Creek last Thursday.
Mr. Johnson, a native of Floyd County, (KY) was born at Weeksbury in 1845 and was the son of the late Harvey and Sarah Johnson. All of his life he was engaged in farming and twenty-five years ago moved to the Long Fork Vicinity. He had been a member of the Regular Baptist Church for a number of years.
Surviving Mr. Johnson are his widow, Polly Whitaker Johnson, five sons, Caleb Johnson, Jr., of Beaver Dam, Wid Johnson of Craft, Jarvey Johnson of Millstone and Mack and Ellis Johnson of Hartley; three daughters, Mrs. Garfield Smallwood of Myra, Mrs. Orville Tackett and Mrs. William Burke of Hartley; one brother, J. Epperson (Toad) Johnson of Yeager and one sister, Mrs. Wash Hall of Melvin.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 o'clock Saturday moring at the home with Elder Hiram Hall officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery.
