Funeral services for Dennis Adams, 86, of Waynesburg, will be held at 1 p.m., January 7, 2016 at Barnett, Demrow & Friend Funeral Home in Waynesburg, KY. Military services will be held at the gravesite in Double Springs Cemetery with full military honors performed by the Caswell-Saufley Post #18 of the American Legion. Born in Letcher County to the late Frazier C. and Melvina Gent Adams, he died January 4 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Mike Adams and Dennis “Dink” Adams, and a grandson, Phillip Villasana. He was a brother of the late Beryl Adams, Rudell Adams, Frazier C. Adams, Jr., Kenneth Adams, and Kermit Adams. Mr. Adams was a U.S. Army veteran and serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are two daughters, Suzie Adams and husband Steve of Waynesburg, and Rhonda Adams of Bushnell, Fla.; a brother, Keith Adams and wife Renee of Hebron; four sisters, Cindy Pumphrey of Eubank, Evylee Lanigan and Jean Lanigan both of Waynesburg, and Sue Todd of New Carlisle, Oh.; eight grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Margaret Adams of Quartzite, Arizona, formerly of Letcher County, KY, passed away, June 12th, 2007 in Phoenix, Arizona after a very long illness. She was the daughter of the late James and Leona Wright of Payne Gap, Kentucky, and the wife of Ben Adams of Quartzite, Arizona, also formerly of Cram Creek in Letcher County. Margaret was born on September 6, 1934, making her 72 years, 9 months and 6 days of age at her passing. She leaves behind two children, Sandy (Dave) Rothwell of Seattle, Washington, and Benny (Rhonda) Adams of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, two grandchildren, Cory Stewart of Seattle and Kerry Adams of Fort Lauderdale, two great-grandchildren, five sisters, Kay (Ray) Adkins of Kent, Ohio, Polly (Joe) Bittrich of Jenkins, Theresa (Bob) Matney of Brandenburg, KY, Janie Bright of Payne Gap, and Sheila Wright of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Three brothers, Tom (Norma) Wright of Jenkins, John (Dallas) Wright of Payne Gap, and Jesse (Esther) Wright of Payne Gap and lots of friends. Margaret was the third child of James and Leona, and the first of nine children to pass away. She fought a long, hard battle for the last few years of her life. She never gave up and always had an upbeat attitude about life, lifting the spirits of family and friends. She never complained. She always had a smile for everyone and if she knew of any of her friends or family who was sick or needed help, she let them know she was thinking of them and was there for them. Margaret will be missed, but she would want us to celebrate her life instead of feeling so sad. We love and miss you, Margaret. Your extended family. Adams, Robert Vernon

Robert Vernon Adams died August 30, 2007. He was 80 years old. Adams was a son of the late Louis Gibson and Kelsey G. Adams, and a grandson of the late Will and Loretta Adams, with whom he lived after his mother's death. He was married to the late Ona Blaine Quillen Adams, and was the father of the late Michael Lynn Adams. He was a brother of the late Kelsey Ray Adams and Alice Mae Adams. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and was a manager of the A&P grocery stores in Neon and Harlan, KY. He also worked at the Quillen Rexalls in Whitesburg, KY and Neon, KY before he and his wife purchased the drugstore in Neon, KY. After selling the drugstore in the early 1980s, he worked in the produce department at Rowlette's Shopwise. Adams was a member of the Neon Volunteer Fire Department and later served on its board of directors. He also belonged to the Neon Community Lions Club and was a committee chair for the eyeglass project. He was a member of the First Church of God. Surviving are a son, Phillip V. Adams and wife Kathy, and a daughter, Linda Adams Collins and husband James D., all of Neon, KY; grandchildren, Allison R. Adams, Jonathan D. Adams, Robert K. Collins, and S. Stamper Collins, all of Neon, KY, and Michael A. She was a member of the Wisdom Faith Community Church. Auvil, Anna Rae Shortt

Funeral services for Anna Rae Auvil, 66, of McRoberts, KY, will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday), March 26, 2008 at the Neon First Church of God, Neon, KY. Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine, KY. A daughter of the late Cephus Ray and Bonnie Frances Burgess Shortt, she was born at McRoberts, KY. She died March 22, 2008 at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, KY. She was the executive secretary at Packing Corporation of America for several years. She attended the Neon First Church of God, Neon, KY. She was a sister of the late Larry Lynn Shortt, and a niece of the late Roy Lee Burgess. Surviving are a son, Ronald P. Auvil II and wife Jessica, McRoberts, KY; a brother, Dannie Joe Shortt and wife Rose, West Lafayette, Ohio; two nieces, Tony Ellen Shortt, Uhrichsville, Ohio, and Raylynn Danielle Shortt, West Lafayette, Ohio; a nephew, Tyler Joe Shortt, Coshocton, Ohio; and an aunt, Irma Burgess, Middleton, Ohio.
