On the marriage license of Ralph W Potter and Margaret Britt, they are listed as having applied for a marriage license in the state of Alabama on what appears to be Dec 1, 1941 and were married on 1 Dec 1941 Marriage License Record Book No 18, Page 261 by Rev C W Milford in Phenix City AL. Ralph W Potter is listed as a Soldier, Father: Creed Potter Mother: Sarah Robertson.

The Bride is listed as Margaret Britt, 1610 I Ave Colombus. GA, Color White. Age: 18 Date of birth: Sept 30, 1923. Occupation: None. Father: William E Britt. Mother: Mattie Bell Burt. Both are listed as their 1st marriage. Ralph W Potter was apparently a U.S. Army soldier at Fort Benning, near Columbus, Russell County, Georgia where he met this wife and married her.

Ralph W. Potter, Sr., 708 E. Loudon Ave., Lexington, 78, son of the late Creed and Sarah Potter, died at home Friday, February 21, 2003. Family members were present.

Mr. Potter was preceded in death by his wife, Macie Austin Potter in 1972, a grandson, Rusty Masters in 1977, and two brothers.

Mr. Potter was a member of the Bread of Life Assembly of God Church, the American Legion, and the V.F.W. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and his community in the field of law enforcement.

Survivors include five daughters, Mary Porter, Forsyth, MO, Arella and Everett Hanvold, Branson, MO, Delilah and Ron Gunter, Church Hill, TN, Teresa and Dail French, McLeansboro, IL, and Retta Potter, Waddy, KY; two sons, Ralph W. Potter, Jr. and Ruby Potter, Miles City, MT, and William F. and Melissa A. Potter, Nicholasville, KY; 15 grandchildren, Sarah Potter, age 15, and William F. Potter II, age 6, both of Nicholasville, Joe Oliver, Deniece Masters, Tammy Messer, Macie Massey, Randy McCarthy, D.J. McCarthy, Glendal French, Cynthia Adcock, Douglas French, Marty Potter, Emily Potter, Melinda Potter, and Archie Potter; 29 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 6pm Tuesday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. with the Rev. David Allen officiating.

65-year-old Teresa Rae French of McLeansboro, died on Wednesday, August 14 at her residence. She was a homemaker, and was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church.

Teresa was born on May 14, 1954 in Valpariso, Indiana to Ralph Potter and Macie Emma (Austin) Potter. She married Glendal Dail French on April 3, 1971 at Brush Harbor Church in McLeansboro.

Survivors include her husband Glendal of McLeansboro, two sons: Glendal Dail French III (wife Theresa) of Lexington, Illinois, and Wayne Douglas French (wife Alanna) of Dale; a daughter: Cynthia Adcock (husband Gary) of Dale; three sisters: Mary of Lexington, Kentucky, Delilah Gunter and Rita Blackwell; two brothers: Ralph Potter of Montana and Bill Potter of Lexington, KY; 9 grandchildren: Jordan, Joshua, Justin, Julian, Alyssa & Alecia French, Macie, Sarah and Luke Adcock; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Arella Hanvold (died 2018).

Funeral services for Teresa Rae French will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 17 at New Salem Baptist Church with burial to follow at Cartwright Cemetery in McLeansboro as Reverend Harl Cockrum will officiate the service. Visitation will be held at 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 17 at the New Salem Baptist Church in Dale.

The Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all the arrangements.
