Obituary: Nancy Ann Stewart Bentley

Nancy Ann Bentley, daughter of the late Robert and Bethane (Burke) Stewart was born in Virginia on September 20, 1901. She passed from this life at
the Jenkins Community Hospital of Friday, May 25, 1990, making her stay here on earth 88 years, 8 months and 5 days. Nancy has been in poor health for quite some time and very sick the past several weeks before her passing.
Nancy married William Payne Bentley at Speight, Kentucky on February 15, 1916. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1977. Also preceding her
were daughters Mallie Marie Burke and Helen Potter; sons: Robert, Bill, Jessie and Walter. Three sisters and seven brothers also preceded her. Nancy has been a member of the Church of Christ for 73 years.
She is survived by: sons: Wilburn Bentley of Virgie, Kentucky; Ballard Bentley of Fleming-Neon, Kentucky; Elish Bentley of Etty, Kentucky; Edd and
Kenneth Bentley both of Jackhorn, Kentucky; William Payne Bentley, Jr. of St. Paul, Virginia; daughters: Mary Fleming and Millie Bethane Bentley
both of McRoberts, Kentucky; Bonnie Jean Hall of Wise, Virginia; sisters: Edith Moore of Alexandria, Virginia; May Seals of Tampa, Florida;
half-sister: Essie Ray of Speight, Kentucky and a brother: Homer Stewart of Speight, Kentucky. Also surviving are 60 grandchildren, 133 great grandchildren, 25 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

Ballard Bentley rites are held. Ballard Bentley, 84, of Neon, Letcher Co KY, died January 2, 2010 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Letcher County, Kentucky. Born in Letcher County, Kentucky, he was a son the late William Payne and Nancy Stewart Bentley, and the father of the late Wilma Ann Bentley. Bentley was a retired coal miner and a member of the Neon Church of Christ. He was a brother of the late Mary Fleming, Marie Burkes, Helen Potter, Jessie Bentley, Walter Bentley, Robert Bentley, Elish Bentley, William Payne Bentley Jr., Bill Bentley and Wilburn Bentley. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Susie Bentley; a daughter, Gail Fleming of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two sisters, Millie Bentley and Bonnie Bentley, both of McRoberts; a sister-inlaw, Opal Bentley; five grandchildren, Amy Deal, Cindy Stewart, Steven Fleming, Shelly Fomby, and Rich Caudill; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held January 5, 2010 at the Neon Church of Christ, Neon, Letcher Co KY. Burial was in the Haven of Rest Cemetery, Mayking, Letcher Co KY.
