Abraham Potter m. 1st to Margaret "Peggy" Newsome d/o Hartwell "Will" Newsome and Sarah "Sally" Tolley. Abraham Potter m. 15 Jul 1869 to (2nd) Sarah "Sallie" Wright b 10 Mar 1847 d 8 Nov 1925 buried Potter Family Cemetery, Payne Gap KY, d/o Joel Ellis Wright and Eliza Agnes Bates.  Sarah Sallie Wright raised the 3 children of Margaret Peggy Newsome from the time King Solomon Potter was age 3, William Henry Potter was age 5 and Sarah Potter was age 7. Children of Abraham Potter and (2nd) Sarah "Sallie" Wright;

 Creed F Potter 1882 was described as a hero by Noah Reynolds (our Granny Eliza Frances Reynold's brother) in his book about the notorious "Reynolds-Wright Feud".  This feud involved many of our ancestors on both sides. If anyone has any information about this Creed Potter 1882 ancestor, please email us. This is one of our unsolved mysteries that we'd very much like to solve. Our Dad, Creed Flannery Potter, was named after Creed F Potter 1882.

Children of Abraham Potter 1837 and Margaret "Peggy" Newsome 1835 (All the following children were raised by Abraham's 2nd wife, Sarah "Sallie" Wright) after Margaret's death in 1868).   King Solomon "Sol" Potter b 11 Aug 1865 d 23 Jul 1943 m. 30 Jul 1885 Wise Co VA to Matilda Hall b 4 Dec 1862 Letcher Co KY d 27 Jan 1946 Hemphill, Letcher Co KY buried Potter Cemetery, Hemphill, Letcher Co KY, d/o Thomas Hall 1840 and Martha Patsy Whitaker. Children of King Solomon Potter and Matilda Hall;

More About Sol Potter and Henry Potter

There's a brief reference to "Sol" and "Henry" Potter in the book "The History of Corporal Fess Whitaker". The man who wrote the book mentions the fact that Sol and Henry Potter (sons of Abraham Potter 1837) were very rich coal magnates.

The book was written by a man who worked for the big coal companies to buy land from the people of Letcher Co KY and surrounding areas. The book can also be found at  This Link. To find Sol and Henry Potter, access the website at that link and search for Potter to find them in the text.

Men who worked for the big coal companies were slightly biased on the side of these huge companies and many folks from that area do not think so much of those who, on behalf of the big coal companies, bought their land for very little to make the big coal companies and themselves wealthy.

Even though some of the info in the book is biased about our very good Reynolds family it's not the first time people haven't had their facts straight. The book does offer some information about a small part of the lives of our Grandfather, Joel Martin Potter, and his family members.
