Obituary of Herman Webb 3 Sept 1934 - 28 Jul 2018
Herman Webb, age 83 of Van Lear, Kentucky passed away Saturday July 28, 2018 at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Born September 3, 1934 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Melvin “Ted” Webb and Clara Marie (Ramey) Webb. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Jean (Blevins) Webb; and three brothers: Melvin Webb Jr, Willie (Jay Lee) Webb and Donald Ray Webb.
There will be no visitation at this time. A public Memorial Service will be held 11:00am Saturday August 4, 2018 at the Mountain Arts Center, 50 Hal Rogers Drive, Prestonsburg, Kentucky 41653. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the Johnson County Animal Shelter or the Mountain Arts .
Obituary Tommy Butcher 27 Jan 1913 - 23 March 1996
Tommy Butcher, 83, stepfather of country singers Crystal Gayle, Loretta Lynn and Peggy Sue, died here at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 1996, at his home. According to those who knew him, he was an interesting man, an optimist and
someone who was devoted to family. "I first met him, I don't know, probably more
than 20 years ago," said family friend Martha Jones. "He worked very hard.
Butcher Hollow in Kentucky was named for his family. "He was a very interesting
man. He was an optimistic man. It was great fun to be around him. His family was
devoted to him."
Mr. Butcher used to operate "Jubilee," a place where country music lovers could
listen to music, and would-be singers and musicians could perform, Mrs. Jones
said. "He started that in the '60s," step son Don Webb said. "He used to get
Opry stars to come in on weekends. He probably ran that for 10 years." He was very proud of the accomplishments of stepdaughters Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle. "He had pictures up all over the house of them," Webb said. Webb will remember Mr. Butcher as a father. "He was always there for us," he said.
He was born on Jan. 27, 1913, in Weeksbury, KY., to John W. and Tishie (Castle)
Butcher. He married Clara Marie Webb Butcher on Nov. 26, 1960 in Wabash. She
died on Nov. 24, 1981. A Wabash County resident for 44 years, Mr. Butcher
retired from Essex, Andrews. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of
the Wabash Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Lawanda) Pegram, Columbus, Ohio; three
step-sons, Herman Webb, Van Lear, Ky., Donald Ray Webb, Wabash, and Jay Lee
Webb, Nashville, Tenn.; four step-daughters, Mrs. Oliver (Loretta) Lynn,
Hurricane Mills, Tenn., Mrs. Sonny (Peggy Sue) Wright, Mrs. Gene (Betty Ruth)
Hopkins, and Mrs. Bill (Crystal Gayle) Gatzimos, all of Nashville, Tenn.; three
sisters, Mrs. John (Alice) Music and Mrs. Roy (Elva) Smith, both of Wabash, and
Mrs. Hobert (Tillie) Skaggs, Urbana; several grandchildren; and several
great-grandchildren. One stepson, two brothers and three sisters are deceased.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wabash Freewill Baptist Church. The
Rev. Venny VanHoose will officiate, assisted by William Bowling. Burial will be
in Falls Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the
Eddingfield-DeLaughter Mortuary."

Lynn, Hurricane Mills, Tennessee; Crystal Gayle, Nashville, Tennessee; Peggy Sue
Wright and Betty Hopkins, both of Hendersonville, Tennessee;
23 grandchildren
and 21 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include one brother, Edward Ramey,
Hager Hill; one sister, Rushie Whitten, Van Lear; two half-brothers, George
Ramey, Ohio, and Bill Ramey, Van Lear; and three half sisters; Audrey Gilberts
and Garnet Horn, both of Ohio; and Jewell Ramey, East Point. Funeral services
were held Saturday, November 28, in Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel with
Lowell Webb officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery in Van Lear with
Jones-Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Webb 53, dies in Indiana. Melvin Webb, 53, died suddenly February 23 1959, in Wabash, Indiana where he had resided for the past four years. A former resident of Van
Lear (Johnson Co KY) he was familiarly known as "Ted", he was a son of the late
Alec and Manda Butcher Webb.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Ramey Webb, four
sons, Melvin Jr., Herman, Willie and Donald, all of Wabash, four daughters, Mrs.
Loretta Lynn, Washington, D.C.; Peggie Sue, Betty Ruth, and Brenda Gale, all of
Wabash; also four brothers, Arbie Webb and Carman Webb of Van Lear; John W.
Webb, Wabash, Ind.; and Simon Webb, Bucyrus, Ohio; and two sisters, Mrs. Ashley
Butcher of Van Lear and Mrs. Daniel Miller, Bucyrus, Ohio. Funeral services were
conducted at 2:00 p.m. February 26 by Rev. Grover Fannin. Burial was in the
family cemetery at Van Lear.
