Obituary: Clinton Fleming
4 May 1926 - 13 Sept 2004

Clinton Fleming, age 78, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, departed this life on Monday, September 13, 2004. He was born on May 4, 1926, at Pike County, Kentucky, and lived most of his life in Letcher County, Kentucky. He was strong and overcame many health problems, but the complications following open-heart surgery were too much for him to overcome. Clinton was a Christian, being a member of the McRoberts Church of Christ for many years. He was a retired coal miner, having worked in the mines for over forty years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and recently received his sixty year membership pin. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and just sitting on the porch.

On December 24, 2004, he and his wife Lessie. celebrated their sixty year wedding anniversary.

He was a son of the late John Jefferson & Bessie Ellen (Stewart) Fleming, and was also preceded in death by a son, Keith Fleming; and also by several brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Lessie (Johnson) Fleming, Jackhorn, Kentucky, two sons and daughters-in-law, Teddy & Judy Fleming, McRoberts, Kentucky, and Chris & Pam Fleming, Jackhorn, Kentucky; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy & Leslie McFall, Neon, Kentucky; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren- one greatgreat -grandchild; three sisters, Glassie, Mabel, and Della; two brothers, Gene and Wid; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Clinton Fleming was held at 12 Noon on Thursday, September 16th, 2006 at the McRoberts Church of Christ. Officiating minister was Shirley Mullins. Interment in the Johnson Cemetery, Jackhorn, Letcher Co., KY. Pallbearers were family members and friends. Funeral arrangements cared for by Carty Funeral Home, Fleming-Neon, KY.


Obituary: Lessie Johnson Fleming

Lessie Johnson Fleming, age 87, of Jackhorn, Kentucky, passed away at her residence on September 9, 2014. She was born on July 7, 1927 on Cook Branch, at Hartley, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Kennis and Caldonia Johnson. She had been in failing health for several months and on Tuesday, she departed this life very peacefully.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Fleming; her oldest son, Keith Fleming; three brothers, Lonnie, Connie and Roscoe; and one sister, Evon.

She is survived by three children, Teddy (Judy) Fleming, of McRoberts, Kentucky, Kathy (Leslie, Jr.) McFall, of Neon, Kentucky, and Chris (Pam) Fleming, of Jackhorn, Kentucky; one sister, Lois Fleming, of Corbin, Kentucky; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two pets that were very close to her heart, a dog, Tipper and a cat, Baby.

Lessie was baptized in April of 1944 and was a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed the worship services of the church and spent many hours encouraging others to a greater faithfulness to God.

On December 24, 1943, Lessie and Clinton were married at the courthouse at Whitesburg. They were blessed to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on December 24, 2003.

She spent her life caring and cooking for her family. Every year she worked hard to put food up for the winter. She would work tirelessly breaking beans to dry and put in the freezer. Every fall it was a family event to make apple butter and mixed pickles.

She leaves behind many family members and friends that will miss her love and guidance greatly.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 10, 2014 after 6:00 PM at Carty Funeral Homes Neon Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 11, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with E.R. Hall officiating. Interment will follow at the Silas Johnson Cemetery, Jackhorn, Kentucky.
